I guess it’s just me. The family have visited all the 5 big islands of japan. Geographically, it seems to make sense to visit this tip of Honshu when I visited Aomori. Honestly, it’s a sleepy town but geographically, it’s iconic. There’s some structures erected by the locals for photo taking and of course, we heard about the oma tuna and there’s a statue of it at this location. Lots of souvenir shops and seafood stands or restaurants serving tuna and other seafood.

Read moreThe Northernmost point of mainland Honshu! A must visit place for the intrepid travelers who like to visit extreme/far-off places. A Car is your best option to get here and have some delicious Tuna which is what this town is famous for. A good 840 Km. from Tokyo though! Most Japanese will only hear about this place for the Tuna fish but few come here. Try to time your visit with the Tuna hunt in October when you can apparently see huge Tuna fishes on display. There are a few shops near the Northernmost point but not a touristic place at all (No Mac or Starbucks!). Basic English should work fine but knowing Japanese helps for deeper conversations...
Read moreIf you have nothing else to do and have plenty of time you might enjoy it. But if you been in Japan for a while and seen the ocean. It’s not worth the drive. There is like 3 run down restaurants. And a decent view of a lighthouse. But it’s really windy and will take you 5 min to walk the area.
Update. I just realize this place is really out the way. It will take you like 2 hours from the “entrance” of the island to 2 more to get out. Honestly I will never...
