Mountainside temple overlooking Onomichi and the heavily-trafficked Onomichi sea channel. It’s a bit hard to work out what’s what without a good grasp of Japanese and Japanese Buddhism but the views alive make it worth stopping at on an exploration of Onomichi’s winding backstreets.

The adventurous should seek out the rocks where you can test your faith (including on the chains you use to pull yourself up and over) on a climb over some of the huge boulders scattered around the top of the mountain. If you don’t mind heights, the views are awesome but it certainly gets the heart racing!
