Late to review! We stayed in Osaka for a month in May and Mushrooming Gym happened to be our closest climbing gym. We checked it out and instantly had to get the month pass.
It became our home for a month as everyone was very welcoming even if we didn't speak any Japanese. The owners Yuta and Azupan, as well as many of the regulars, are lovely to talk to and they speak great English. They used to live in Australia and I could tell their humour was very Aussie 🦘
It might seem like such an unassuming place but you can tell there's so much love put into this gym by everyone and there's enough Problems created by the regulars to never run out. There were no egos and I had so much fun, mainly cause everyone else was having so much fun too.
Walls are more like a spray wall, compared to Sydney gyms. It was definitely intimidating initially but I quickly got the hang of it. Fingers were much stronger after a month here.
This place has a very special place in my heart. Thank you Yuta and Azupan, and all of the regulars! Osaka number 1️⃣!...
Read moreI was a bit nervous to visit the gym by myself as I don't speak Japanese. Turned out the couple who owns the gym used to live in Australia; we had a great chat about the gym's history and where I got wooden holds for my home wall (climbing nerd mode on).
The actual climb: the routes were great. The owners were cheering for me and congratulated me for finishing a route. They also helped me with the betas. People were friendly.
Grades are very hard in Japan as you may know. Using the conversion chart I realised the hardest route I climbed here was a V0+. So do be prepared to be smashed and forget about your V level ability back home....
Read moreMy husband and I went to MushRooming bouldering gym on a rainy afternoon while visiting Osaka and we had a really great time. The owners are super welcoming and speak very good English. You can just pay a one-off rate and rent shoes/chalk (no membership needed). The gym is small but it was very quiet when we were there at 4pm and there was a large selection of routes to complete. They walked us through the grading and how things work relative to the European gyms we’re used to. We would love to go back if we’re ever in...
