Entrance fee 500¥. The statue’s height is 100 meter. Near the entrance, you could find a lot of omamori(lucky charm) and souvenirs. There are several parts of places you could visit here. From the entrance gate, in the first floor, you could find 33 Kannon-Bosatsu and the statue of twelve guardian deities (Chinese Zodiac). After taking a tour on the first floor, you should use the elevator to go to the highest floor. It is the 12th floor, where you could pray and buy candles to write your name and wishes. It cost 300¥/candle and they will light it and pray it for you. From there, you could go down using stairs and you could find many Buddhist statues in each floor. The total will be 108 Buddhist statues. There is the information written regarding each of the Buddhist images, but sadly it’s only provided in Japanese. If you understand the meaning of the statue, you could pray to the Buddhist statue and give some coins for your prayers. Near the exit/entrance area, you also could buy omikuji (100¥). The omikuji (fortune teller) provided in English and Japanese language. Outside of the building, you could find the area to hang up the bad omikuji. If you walk to the back of the Daikannon statue, you will find Aburakake Daikoku-ten, which is a small shrine to pray for your wishes.

Though a little bit out of the way, you should have no problem catching a bus to and from here and the station. If you need help or are not sure which bus to take, there are information centres at the bus terminals that can help you. The statue itself is much more imposing in person, beware that once inside there are no toilets and it can take a bit of time ascending/descending the statue - toilets are located outside towards the right of the entrance (facing). Inside you can view the statues of zodiac as well as the 108 buddhas - there are no translations for them however you can use the google translate app to glean some info from them. Unfortunately you cannot go outside the statue at any elevation, only look outside small portholes as you descend/ascend the tower. If you have some space in your itinerary this is recommended, however there's not much else in the surrounding area so keep note of the bus departure times (check the signs on the bus stop)

I wanted to see this statue as it seemed very high and beautiful from far. I took a bus from Sendai station that took 40 minutes. The statue is currently under renovation, so it is not as beautiful as I expected. They have the ropes for construction work and many areas that need to be painted. However, the entrance price is low (500 yen). I'd recommend to go on a sunny day because the views would be better. We could go to the 12th floor, where there are some small windows from which you can see the views. Views inside from the top are also stunning. I dont know if I'd fully recommend to go there as there are no other things to visit around and the daikannon is more beautiful from far, but if you have extra time it's ok.

The most decrepit religious grounds I have ever seen in Japan! It looks like it is in a Third World country, like India. There is trash along the walkway and a huge abandoned gravel and cement pit (it looks like an abandoned pool) in front. The washrooms look dirty, and the temple behind the statue looks like it's in disrepair. It is not worth the 400¥ and 40-minute bus ride each way from Sendai JR Station. I am surprised the Sendai city government has not forced the open pit owner to clean it up. I wonder if the adjacent hotel has pressured the city to act, as it degrades their property too. In sum, don't bother. It's not worth the trip.

It is absolutely stunning, such a wonderful experience. Seeing this from afar and walking over was an experience I will never forget. It looks like something out of a film. So I really recommend, if possible, walking up to it from a distance, as you can really appreciate the scale. Inside the staff were wonderful and spoke some. English. Inside is beautiful. We spent a few hours here, as me and my partner are artists and also love reading about the legends and history. Not a lot of Enhlish translation, but seeing the exhibits was something i will neber forget. The small ticket price is worth the visit. So please visit

500 Yen entry fee is worth it. You can see the outside of the statue for free but if you go inside you go around the lobby and there are statues representing the Zodiac. Go up to the 12th floor in the elevator for a nice view through small windows and another statue. Walk down the stairs and every floor there are 12 different Buddha statues where you can donate extra money if you wish. If it's near you then it's worth a look. It's quite a walk from the nearest train station so bear that in mind.
