Chofu Garden — Attraction in Shimonoseki

This place was the site of the residence of Nishi Yukinaga, one of the chief vassals of the Chofu Mori Domain, and is currently a Japanese-style landscape garden with a circular path, where you can enjoy seasonally changing landscapes. In the about-30,000-m2 garden against the background of a hill, there are a pond, a Shoin building, a tea ceremony building, a stream and so on. This garden has maintained the quiet atmosphere of the olden days. 今回は、長府庭園の7月の催しである『孫文蓮観蓮会（かんれんかい） 』のタイミングで訪問致しました。長府庭園の代名詞の１つ、孫文蓮の開花時期に併せて、午前5時に早朝開園されます。 開催期間は年によって違いますが、7月の週末の時期に早期開園されるようです。

私は今回、2021年7月10日（土）の午前5時に合わせて訪問しました。 ちなみに2021年は他に7月11日（日）、7月23（金）-25日（日）の4日間も午前5時早期開園されます。

『孫文蓮観蓮会（かんれんかい）』開催日は、午前5時の開園から午前9時まで、書院にて、お食事として、蓮うどん（350円）とはす茶粥（150円）が振る舞われます。また、はす茶が600円で販売されています。書院はテーブルとパイプ椅子が置かれていて、暖かいはす茶が無料ですので、ゆっくり休憩することも出来ます。 また、今年は7月10日（金）と7月23日（金）には雨が降っていなければ孫文蓮の前のお庭で午前7時から30分程度、下関市園芸センターのグリーンアドバイザーである内田祐介氏が孫文蓮について詳細に楽しく説明してくださいます。

さて、私は前日、どのような混み具合になりそうか事前に電話で問い合わせました。電話で応対してくださった方は非常に丁寧でどんな感じになりそうかよく理解出来ました。 駐車場は無料です。駐車スペースは100台以上はありそうなので十分に広いです。 朝5時の開園に合わせて10組程度の訪問者がありましたが、大雨の後だったので、おそらく少なめだったんだと思います。 入園料は大人210円、小中学生100円、下関市内および北九州市内にお住まいの65歳以上の方100円です。

さて、孫文蓮ですが、手前と奥の2箇所ほど観蓮できる場所があります。 思ったより数は少ないですが、やはり早起きは三文の得です。つぼみが開花する様子をしっかりと観蓮することが出来ました。だいたい1時間から1時間30分くらいで開花したように思います。

その後は書院で休憩をはさみながら、内田祐介氏のとても楽しいちょこっと講座を受講（基本立ったまま周りを囲んで受講するスタイルです。）しました。

5時から8時位までの3時間足らずでしたが、とても充実して楽しいひとときを過ごすことが出来ました。

なお、その後、ちょこっと講座で情報を得た「青蓮」の名所、青海島の『西圓寺』まで足を延ばしました。（車平道で1時間30分程度） なお、西圓寺は観光地にはなっていないので、必ず事前に西圓寺さんに電話で問い合わせてから訪問...
