The Battle of Dannoura was a battle fought between the Heishi and Genji clans on March 25, 1185, in Dannoura, Akamagaseki, Nagato Province, at the end of the Heian period in Japan. From the mid-Heian period onwards, the warrior class grew, and among them, the Heishi and Genji clans were the most powerful. These two clans fought their final battle on March 24, 1185, in Dannoura, Akamagaseki, Nagato Province; present-day Shimonoseki. On this day, the armies of the two clans faced off at sea at Dannoura.
