Takaoka Castle was a flatland-style Japanese castle in what is now the city of Takaoka, Toyama Japan. It was originally constructed in 1609, and was only used for a few years before being dismantled. The site of its ruins are now a park.

日本百名城に選ばれているものの、城と言うより広場だけの公園？という感じになってしまっています。メインであろう射水神社へ向かう参道の途中の土橋の石垣が、草やら蔦やらで大半が整備されず被われてしまい、また水堀もハッキリ見えません。城として見る場合に、少し残念だとしか言いようがありません。【再投稿】１１月下旬、射水神社と合わせ３回目の訪問になります。今回、城郭をしっかり見て廻ってみて、考えを改めなければならないと実感しました。以前来たときは、初夏という事もあり、草木で大半が分かりにくかったが、今回は初冬という事もあり、土塁や土橋の石垣、水堀などの城郭遺構がよく見えました。大手口を起点に外堀をぐるっと周りつつ、鍛冶丸、明丸、三ノ丸、中の島、本丸から二ノ丸へ、そして土橋石垣を堪能できました。大手口に高山右近像があります。秀吉時代の切支丹禁令で改宗を拒否、追放となったが前田利家、利長親子を頼り金沢城へ来ます。そして徳川幕府のバテレン追放令まで、前田家に仕えていました。前田利長の隠居の為の城が高岡城になりますが、築城にあたり縄張(設計)したのが高山右近です。城郭は、築城した人の個性が表れますが、ここ高岡城も面白みのある個性的な城郭でした。以前は星３つでしたが、今回４つ以上はあると思い変更しました。

日本100名城のひとつで、越中國一ノ宮射水神社があり動物園、博物館は無料で楽しめます。高岡城は、慶長14年(1609)に加賀前田家2代当主・前田利長の隠居城としてわずか半年間の突貫工事で築城された。しかし、利長は慶長19年(1614)5月20日にわずか5年の在城で逝去した。翌年、元和元年(1615)には、一国一城令により廃城となったと考えられる。その後、加賀前田家3代当主・前田利常が(高岡)町人らの城下町からの転出を禁止し、また、高岡町奉行の管理下にあった城址内に米蔵等を置き、廃城後寂れゆく城下町を商工の町へと転換する再興政策を行った。そのため、高岡城は江戸時代を通して、城の実質的価値である堀や土塁を保存することができた。ところが、明治3年(1870)、金沢藩は高岡城址の民間払い下げを決定し、城郭遺構破壊の危機が迫った。このころ、明治6年(1873)の太政官布告16号(公園条令)が布達されたことも追い風となり、第17大区区長(市長に相当)の服部嘉十郎らによる公園指定運動が起こった。明治8年(1875)に「高岡公園」として指定を受けたことにより、高岡城址は城郭遺構の破壊を免れた。ガイド冊子より

This is a great destination for flower lovers when they're in season. In addition to its famous cherry blossoms, it has heritage plum trees with a variety of different colors of blossom.
