Kotokuji — Attraction in Tokyo

Kotokuji(広徳寺)temple is a place where is nowhere else and look beautiful and clam and Peacefully place to visit.

I’ve visited about 10 years ago with my family and this will be my 2nd visit by bicycle.

The temple main entrance is breathtaking after you enter and seeing the floor it’s all covered with ginkgo golden leaves. The temple looks having a long old history. (please use google for more information about this temple)

The main of this view it from the two ginkgo trees. Autumn is the most beautiful season for this and brings many visits (Oversea and local) the view really take you into another dimension of view.

The location is accessible by taking the JR train and get off at Musashi-Itsukaichi station. (武蔵五日市) Instead of going directly to the temple, if you have a little of the time, My suggestion to you will take a walk along the Aki River (秋川) follow the path and walk toward temple Kotokuji.（広徳寺）to enjoy the river view and follow by the temple.

The temple is small and the most will take you 30mins or less to fully enjoy the view and taking nice photos. Other than the temple, we can walk along the riverside whereby there is a hiking path or bicycle path for you to walk/ride along the river.

After that, you can rest inside the temple and enjoying the beautiful view.

Please take note walking up to the temple will be a small and steep road and the sometimes car may pass by too.

I will recommend you pay a short visit and there are some nice local cafe and soba restaurants for you to get some...

禅宗の素晴らしいお寺です。鎌倉建長寺派に属しているお寺ですね、八王子の美山にある採石場を超えると直ぐなのですが、その道は現在通れません。昔は、この道を通って五日市へ通っていたのだと思います。鎌倉北条氏の紋が、掲げられています。後北条氏の紋と、多分間違えてしまいますね？氏照公も大切に保護されていたお寺で、古文書もあります。素晴らしいお寺です、是非とも訪れて頂きたいです。

広徳寺はあきる野市小和田２３４番地にある寺です。境内は五日市盆地西縁の秋川西岸の山麓にあり、地勢的には五日市盆地入口の秋川左岸にあり、建久二年(１１９１)創建の真言宗大悲願寺と対峙する位置にあります。臨済宗龍角山広徳寺は、応安六年(１３７３)開基の正應了受居士によって創立され、鎌倉建長寺七十世心源希微禅師を講じて開山したと伝えられている。天文年間(１５３２～１５５５)に北条氏康によって中興され、江戸時代には幕府から四十石の朱印状が与えられ、約一万二千坪の境内地を保有した。現在の堂宇は、１８～１９世紀に再興された禅宗伽藍を中心に、総門の全面と北側に土塁や貯水池などの遺構が残っている。 『武蔵名勝図会』には広徳寺、同領同郡小和田村にあり。この寺の古文書に「由井之広徳寺」とあれば、古えは由井郷の内なり。これより秋川向こうの辺までを「由井之深沢山」とも見えけれども、中古以来は小宮領秋留郷とす。 林檎　この境内は林檎多く、味わいもまた佳なり。江戸神田へ出す。「広徳寺りんご」とて、その名を唄うとある。　現在、八王子市美山町から広徳寺に続く道は通行できないが、この道は鎌倉古道である。恩方地区には佐野川往還が通じており、中世はこの道が八王子と上野原を結ぶ重要な交通手段であった。広徳寺は戦略重要な位置を成していたから、寺には貴重な古文書が残されている。

A place that will fill your heart. Perfect location for viewing ginkgo. We went there early morning and there were no much people. There is a parking lot just outside the shrine where you can park for free. The road that goes up to the shrine is quite narrow, hopefully there were no vehicle coming opposite side and we took our vehicle straight up to the shrine 😉
