The ravine is CLOSED! Writing this on 2025/07/05
Due to some fallen trees or something or has been closed since I moved here almost two years ago. So writing this as I still see lots of people coming and being disappointed.
It's nice when open and I'll update this review when it reopens.
If you do end up here anyway, go to the Todoroki Japanese Gardens just a few hundred metres south. You can still see a bit of the ravine from there as well as the nice garden (free tea in the hut at the top, leave a small donation!). Then go down the garden into the ravine and back up the other side to see Todoroki Fudōsan Temple.
If you feel up for a bit of a walk, follow the road South to Tama river, then turn right and walk along the path by the river, going North to Futagotamagawa. It will be a 30-40 minute walk from the Temple. Futagotamagawa has some nice parks and big department stores with shopping/cafés/restaurants. Read moreWow. An incredible gorge, a flat hike in the city along a river fed by tiny waterfalls coming out of the valley walls. Historical, traditional, geologically amazing, and it even has enough bathrooms and benches. There is also a beautiful garden, just past the protected honey bees in the tree, where if you walk up to the top there is a beautiful view, and they give you free tea. Read moreA really beautiful natural space, somewhat of a rarity in Tokyo. It's actually the only natural valley in Tokyo. It's especially good in the summer, as the temperature stays cooler than outside the ravine. There is also a nice temple right at the other end of the ravine.
