A thoroughly enjoyable museum that is well laid out across three floors. It explains the history of the area, from fishing and animals to culture and transport. About two-thirds of the captions are in Japanese but there’s a fantastic online guide in English (and other languages) that can be accessed using a QR code and free WiFi. Definitely access this because almost every cabinet has a thorough explanation and the English is excellent. The gardens are nice and there’s a good view of the river/lake. Parking is free outside and there are...

A surprisingly good museum. Great museum by Akao am standards, especially the first floor which covers the geological and natural history of Kushiro. Lots of English and videos with subtitles. Other areas of focus are the modern local culture, and Ainu history. Worth a stop by,...
