At the beginning of 19th century, Harutomi Tokugawa, the feudal lord of Wakayama, ordered to build this garden as his villa. Yo-sui-en means the garden to enjoy evergreen trees. It is good walking under the shade of pine trees around the pond which takes the larger part of east of the garden. As this pond takes its ocean water from Oura-Bay which surround the garden, it will be fun watching fish which often jump out from the pond. The legend says that this pond was build imitating Xi-Hu lake in China. Yo-sui-tei house which was build in the center of the garden in 1821, where the lord used to take a rest. There are lord's room (Go-za-no-ma), a kitchen (Go-zen-dokoro), a tea ceremony room (Cha-shitu "Jissai-an"), and so on.
