I arrived here at the entrance of the Aqua Museum (aquarium) around 8:50am on a Saturday morning. My friends and I bought tickets on Klook with a 9am arrival. There was a line but they let people in around 8:55am. If you don’t already have tickets, there is a ticket booth. Staff have print outs of common questions/information in English that aids with communication barrier. We didn’t know this was part of an amusement park, so that was a surprise.
Upon entering, we passed aquarium tanks with fish. Beyond that is a place to have pictures taken for an additional cost.
They have many animals including penguins, sea lions, large crabs, polar bears, walrus, sharks, jelly fish, sting rays, eels, and many, many more! They have an outside area for land animals such as otters, flamingos, and prairie dogs. You even get to go up the escalator through one exhibit, which is pretty cool. In lab 6, you can touch and hold a starfish.
My biggest complaint is that they need to clean the windows in the water exhibits because the parts where there isn’t water is obstructed, which prevents guests from seeing the animals clearly. There was one exhibit with bubbles and what not on the lid where we couldn’t see at all inside.
We watched a live presentation at 10am. The visuals had English translation, which was great. There was dolphins, penguins, and walrus in the show! Unfortunately, the commentary was in Japanese, so we didn’t understand it. The show lasted about 25 minutes.
They have vending machines throughout the aquarium but they take cash :( I noticed they had spaces for breastfeeding women, which is cool!
After we finished the aquarium, we went to the food court and had lunch. I got a burger, fries, and chicken nuggets, which was good. The burger had a mozzarella type cheese on it that I thought was mayo. It was overpowering and I didn’t finish it. My friends got ramen and food from the chicken place and they enjoyed it! It’s fair prices, much better than food at an amusement park in the USA, lol.
My friend wanted to ride the roller coaster, which we did. We had to go back to the ticket counter to purchase the ticket. If you’re a local, you can purchase online. I like that you can buy tickets to an individual ride but they do have various day passes.
Overall, it was a fun experience! We were there for about 4 hours. They have a gift shop and MANY food and dessert options outside of the food court. I...
Read moreSea Paradise consists of Four areas plus one. Aqua museum. This is the main aquarium. There are three kinds of shows to be seen here. A. The movie on the 5th floor. B. The sardines illusion on the 1st floor. Really something that I've never seen in other aquariums. C. The outdoor performance on the 4th floor. Loved the dolphins!
The exhibits are nice and enough to intrigue.
Fureai lagoon Fureai means touch. This is a place where you get to touch some of the animals! It's also the place where outdoor shows take place. We watched a show where a sea lion painted the words of the new era "Reiwa".
Dolphin Fantasy. A little waste of time. There's a lot of product advertisements. The inner big chamber only contained some squids. You can see dolphins in the outer chamber. You probably will only spend 5 or ten minutes at most.
Umi Farm. I did not go in but it's a place for you to do some fishing.
If you can, try to find the schedule of the shows so that you can plan the visit properly.
Rides. The unlimited rides with the museum is only additional 2000 yen or 3000 yen without. I did not go on the rides as I was bringing my toddler. The rides are all around the area.
I reached at about 12 and left about 5pm.
There's a food shop near the entrance that sells decent food and snack. Soup Yaki soba was something I have never seen before but it's actually quite good.
There's a food court inside and Marion crepes (from Harajuku fame).
The place is very spacious and very good to bring kids. My wife who wasn't very keen on visiting an aquarium in the first place said the place surprised her and she would want to bring our kids...
Read moreYokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise is filled with a variety of different aquatic animals as well as various cute land animals.
There are live shows available throughout the day at scheduled times, which are listed on their website. The live performances were captivating and I enjoyed the dolphins’ performance the most.
Apart from the massive aquariums, Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise also has various attractions and rides such as a roller coaster ride (The Leviathan), a boat ride, fishing spots where you can catch and cook your own fish as well as fish farms. The roller coaster was absolutely scary, it had multiple drops and loops. Although it was fun, we queued about 40 minutes for the roller coaster.
There is a food court with various lunch options including fast food. Relatively cheap and filling. There is also a souvenir shop however the products were on the pricier side.
I highly recommend anyone visiting to book the tickets in advance as the queues for purchasing tickets on-site that day were very long. Fortunately for us, we booked the day pass in advance on Klook so we were able to enter the aquarium almost immediately.
The day pass includes free entry to almost all rides and attractions excluding some like the haunted house. We spent the entire day in Yokohama Sea Paradise and still felt that we haven’t seen everything. Overall, it’s definitely a place...
