This is probably the best place to visit in Atyrau for a few hours expat escapade. The museum is not big but it has many interesting stuff on display. There are artifacts that go back to 3 centuries AD and there are also clippings of newspapers dated in 2017. I spent an excellent 2 good hours visit here. My favorite are the first and second exhibition halls. The entrance is only 500 Tenge for foreigner (1,25 Euros) and 200 Tenge (50 centimes). And if you want, you can pay another 1000 Tenge (2,5 Euros) for an audio guide in English and 4 or 5 other languages. The museum is open daily until 6 pm. There is a wide variety of exhibits on the history, culture, key figures, industry, and flora & fauna of the Atyrau area from ancient history to today. We arranged for an English-speaking guide in advance (see photo for details), and she spent about an hour walking us through the highlights. She was happy to take questions and explore topics in more depth according to our interests. Only some signs were in English, so her assistance was invaluable.
