i personally visited the famous lamu town and i think that when someone says the town is exellent, you have to admit that they are right. it has very beautiful boats both locally made and the steam boats. if you like speed, then you can safely opt for the speed boat. but if you like leasure, like me, you would go for the more traditional boat that slowly cruises along the waters and allows you a more organised and relaxed view of the town. besides, the leisure cruse is very cheap.(about 50/=) the people are friendly and kind. they can even offer to take you round if you want. it is a very traditional town, and i mean just that. the people walk on foot or use donkeys as transport. their is no public transport like cars or trains. not to mentinon that the accommodation is cheap and affordable as compared to other major towns the traditional foods are exellent and you really have to try it yourself to know what i mean. {esp. the honey chilli chicken} the only thing that turned me off is the prices on their items. they are a bit expensive if you ask me, with a piece of kikoy selling at 600 kenyan shillings or maasai sandals for as much as 1000 kshs. but as they say its all for a good cause. in general, lamu island in the coast of kenya is worth...
Read moreLamu Fort has a wealth of history residing in its walls and lines. Built by the Sultan of Oman in the second decade at the start of the 19th century, it served to protect Lamu from invaders after the battle of Shela. The fort also hosts a library, a music studio, and spaces to conduct Swahili ceremonies.
We had the pleasure of being guided by one of the staff, Danson, who did a good job. Just a small token of appreciation was...
