Makubwa House — Hotel in Mkomami ward

An absolutely beautiful house. Simple and sophisticated. Very spacious and welcoming in every corner. Every area has its own personality and feel that we absolutely loved. From the plunge pool area, to the first floor where the kitchen is. And of course the roof top which is stunning. The decor is rich in culture and so much authenticity is behind everything, with a lot of plant life around which I thoroughly appreciated. The place is quiet and peaceful, with a lovely view of the ocean and the open sky. It has an overall serene ambiance that made the whole stay nearly therapeutic. Immediately felt like home.

It's very close to a lot of the places one might need to reach like shops, banks, restaurants, the museum, the bay. Making it a really convenient place to be.

The staff is very friendly and was always ready to help with Julius helping around the house and anything we needed, and Captain Dolphin being absolutely wonderful in exposing us to great experiences in Lamu such as sailing trips and the best chilling spots while there. Thank you to them.

We could not have asked for anything better with Makubwa House. Incredibly made the Lamu experience breathtaking. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the island.

Makubwa house is an ideal home away from home. Being my first time in Lamu, I’m glad to have experienced in such a beautiful villa. I can say the villa surpassed my expectation especially because you can’t tell how big it is or how beautiful from the outside. It is a beautiful disguise. With three floors consisting of a swimming pool, rooftop, good view of the ocean, kitchen, dining area, bedrooms, bathrooms and extra beds etc, it can accommodate as many as 10 people. It is the perfect feel of a coastal home with modern decor and ambiance. Staying there really made me feel like I was in Lamu. Mainly because the villa is situated in the Heart of Lamu. Makubwa is located in Old Town Lamu and has great access to the whole town. It is literally about a 3-minute walk from all amenities and access to the ocean. Additionally the staff are very hospitable & sweet; ensuring your stay is as comfortable and relaxing as it can be. I would definitely visit Lamu again and Makubwa would be my...

I can only recommend the house. I was traveling with the backpack in the Massai mara and therefore had no internet reception. I was able to make contact with the owner through a friend. He helped me a lot and organized air tickets and a house for me. I was given the choice whether I wanted to live in this house or in another beautiful house. Since at this time the lower floor was completely renovated I decided for the other variant. I could come by every day though. The house has a great view of the sea. and is very nice open. it is preserved in the traditional style of the island. The owner asked me every day if I was satisfied, he was very welcoming, uncomplicated and helpful. only for that the house has earned five stars.
