Lamu Museum is arguably the most contemporary museum in the country and definitely the only one in Lamu. Recently renovated with help from the Sultanate of Oman, the museum takes on a monochrome theme as one journeys through Swahili culture, from origins, birth, social order, worship, living and death. It's the easiest place to get a good definition of who the Swahili are, or aren't. The Omanis have taken up the entirety of the first floor to showcase their Sultanate's history, its interaction with the East African coast before and during colonialism, and what present day Oman has to offer.
To be frank, one can see a clear difference between the amount of research, synthesis, story, and art direction that went into the Swahili vs Omani showcases. The ground floor o n l y provides information about Lamu and swahili culture which you probably come to see here. They're a few interesting gadgets and nips of information which make the visit worthwhile.
Apart the building itself is interesting, the views from the second floor balcony to the laguna are fresh and cooling windy.
The second floor is propaganda of the state of Oman and its culture of how great it is. Probably due to the fact they have given direct funds and cash to set up such a showcase. Decide yourself if you wanna immerse yourself...

No problem Then the flush doesn't work. Then you take soap from the dispenser at the sink. And then you try to open the tap... but impossible.
