I recently went to watch the film Sinners at Two Rivers Mall in Nairobi and unfortunately the experience was extremely underwhelming and borderline frustrating. While I was curious about the movie’s storyline and characters the actual screening felt more like sitting through a bootleg copy projected in a dark hall than watching a legitimate cinematic release in one of Nairobi’s most popular malls.
From the moment the movie began the issues were glaring. The screen was filled with red vertical scan lines throughout the film which distorted the visuals and made it incredibly difficult to enjoy or even focus on what was happening. Combine that with subpar sound quality, muffled dialogue, and uneven volume and the entire experience felt cheap and careless.
I wasn’t the only one disappointed. Several others in the theater were visibly upset and murmured about the same thing. It genuinely felt like the theater had either projected a low quality or unlicensed version of the film or their equipment was seriously malfunctioning.
For a venue like Two Rivers you would expect much better. The entire setup failed to do justice to Sinners, a film that regardless of its content deserved a basic level of visual and audio clarity.
Verdict: Not Worth It at This Venue If you’re considering watching Sinners skip Two Rivers Mall entirely and find another cinema with working equipment and respect for moviegoers. I’ll personally be rewatching the film elsewhere to give it a fair shot and to cleanse my memory of this...
Read moreBest theater in Nairobi. I was here weekly over 4 weeks after experiencing 2 other theaters.
It's new and clean. Theaters 4, 5, and 6 have comfortable non-porous pleather recliner seats and clean carpet/flooring. The Imax theater has mostly non-recline seats.
Popcorn options are salted, caramel, or mixed. It comes in 1 size. They also sell ice cream bars, hot dogs, soda, etc..
The time for previews is inconsistent - one movie had 8 mins of previews, another had 10, and a third had 15.
If you're seeing a 3D movie, bring your own 3D glasses or pay extra to buy them.
Counter staff moves efficiently, but I dislike that some cashiers rush ticket purchases without allowing patrons to choose the seats they want. Even if theater is empty, clients come to these types of theaters for exactly this reason - to choose their preferred seats - and would like the courtesy of choice.
Prudence has been the much-appreciated exception. She's energetic, attentive, and fast/efficient. She also asks which seat I'd like to reserve, instead of making the...
Read moreGreat cinema in experience! We’ve been 3 times in the last week. This location is opposite Orca and up some escalators. The entry and waiting area is clean and welcoming. There is even a children’s play area. The restrooms are also very clean, although toilet paper isn’t always around. Purchasing tickets can be with cash, card or Mpesa. The movie schedule and prices are nowhere to be found. The cinema’s Instagram account has them, but I haven’t found them anywhere else. It costs about 550 for one person. The concessions were only popcorn, crisps and sodas. Inside the movie theater has been mostly clean. We did have one movie where the popcorn on the floor wasn’t cleaned from the previous show. The seats are spacious and slightly recline. The front seats are almost full reclining beds, they look appealing, but I imagine that close to the front wouldn’t be a great viewing position. They even have a lift for the disabled. 5 stars! I hope the advertising of shows, prices and more concessions options improves. We...
