Extraordinary historic location in the Armenian town of Anjaar. This location is about 3km from Syria, across the hills, but is very safe right now, but so check your travel insurance validity prior to travelling.

Entrance price is cheap - a few 000 LL - and service is courteous. Bathrooms are spotless. A kiosk outside furnishes tourist souvenirs and bottled water.

Curation is extensive and excellent. The reconstruction is instructive.

I am not sure if it is worth a visit on its own if you are travelling from Beirut, but well worth it on a long day trip that includes the mighty and...

My visit in Anjar was part of a one-day tour. Located in the Bekaa Valley, this fascinating complex is filled with ruined temples, impressive arcades, and gates, many built in Hellenistic and Roman style. While walking through the ruins, we were plunged back in time and were able to figure out how well organized was the life in this small city. Our favorite part of this site was definitely the thermal baths built on the Roman model. Find more picture on my Instagram (kelledstyle) and more...

This place is magical: a piece of Roman architectures built for the fourth Caliphate in 600 AD, with many of the key features of a Roman City still visible. The main two streets (Cardio and Decumano Maximo) splitting the area in four quadrants each of them with some unique features. The area has been extensively renovated by a number of projects funded by the US and South Korean embassies. Worth a visit: the Roman Hamman and the palace of the Caliph.

After a relatively long drive with few traffic jams, we reached the area of Anjar Citadel. Parking was available free on the road side. 3 prices for tickets, Lebanese residents, non residents and foreigners. We want in, going around the ruins, unfortunately the place is not well maintained and it’s beauty and value has not been unearthed fully. Despite that you can still appreciate the place and imagine what was it like during its glorious days.
