Good view. Everything else.
There is an entry fee at 8€ per person, which is never mentioned during reservation phone call.
The view is nice, but the windows are dirty.
As other tower-top restaurant, there is rotation involved. Other similar restaurants will have the whole restaurant rotate, but at this one the tables are put by the window, on some kind of "train" that pull you around slowly. It gives a cheap feeling, and is VERY noicy, it sounds like a worn-out mineshaft elevator.
There was no one to meet us after the expensive elevator ride to the top, so we just walked around until we met some kind of "manager" which did not understand english. After talking to the bartender we got a table (they did not seem to recognize my reservation).
The vaitor was not in a good mood, rude, and when I asked why they don't serve burgers after 18:00 (I was just wondering why this would be) he angrily started to teach me how the clock works. We ordered main course and dessert at once, plus a beer and a pepsi.
The beef (no one knows if it was tenderloin, sirloin, or what it was) which took about 40 minutes to arrive , was not terrible, but absolutely not great. The sauce was horrible, the veggies were not great.
The vaitor came with the dessert 20 minutes after we finished main course, it was a bit dry, and too sweet. We ordered another pepsi at the arrival of dessert which never was delivered.
We got our check and was gonna pay, then the vaitor said that it is not possible to tip with credit card and said "just put tipcash on the table" as if the tip were mandatory.
To top it of, despite their policy against children playing and running around, there was kids running all over the place, around the whole restaurant. Some was screaming, some crying. Some parents even did some running exercises with their kids past our table.
My worst reataurant experience, although with a great view (through the...
Read moreIt was a wired experience. The girl at the entrentrence first informationed us that there was a private event and the restaurant was closed.
Then later she said we could go up to the tower and eat in 30 minutes. After waiting 30 min we went to buy the tickets. We had bought a Vilnius city card beforehand and therefore had free acces to the tower. This was not recognized by the girl and she made a quick estimation of a price that wasn't listed and more seemed taken out of her head. We showed her the "free entrance" and she sighed and we got our free tickets anyway.
When we got up to the top we were stunned by the amazing views but the restaurant looked more like a nightclub than a restaurant.
Then we decided to have a burger, but the burgers would not be served after 18 (now it was 19). We don't really get why since you could order the other food but ok. We decided for a pork dish and a salad. We got asked if we wanted our food at the same time. Like as if me and my girlfriend would like to get served at separate times. We kindly asked to have them together.
Then the waiter forgot to bring us the menu for a dessert and we asked to pay 30 min later. Then they tried to hint that we should leave so they could take the bill. We had payed with a bigger bill and did not feel like leaving a 36% tip. So we scrableds together the amount otherwise and left. (Also you have to ask for them to call the elevator for you, since only the staff had the access card)
So don't go here for the restaurant, go there for a fun experience and try to enjoy it while laughing about how...
Read moreThe tower has a great view over all of Vilnius, which would make it a top notch place to visit if it wasn't dragged so far down by the atrocious service received at both the reception and the restaurant. In the entire hour rotation of the restaurant, we only barely got our drinks and were never re-approached to place an order for food. Even when attempting to flag down someone from the waitstaff, they seemed oblivious and simply kept walking. Then, once we'd had enough of being ignored, we tried to access the outdoor observation area (which we thought we had already paid for downstairs when we asked for it) and were charged an extra 5 euro before we would be admitted. Once we paid the additional charge we were directed to wait near the elevators and informed that someone would be by shortly to take us to the outdoor area. After waiting there for more than 20 minutes, the bartender happened to walk out from the staff area and seemed to forget that he had told us to wait there. Finally the escort from the ground floor arrived, but even she was unaware that we were waiting for access to the outdoor observation deck (likely due to the complacency of the bartender). After another 15 minutes, the escort returned to collect us and another waiting party and we were finally able to access the outdoor observation area.
In short, if you decide to visit the TV Tower, skip the restaurant section altogether as it is certainly not worth the headache and wasted time. But I must admit that the views of the surrounding countryside and city are quite worth the price...
