The Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is a state mosque located in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. This mosque was officially opened by Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Abu Bakar in 1900. The mosque is named after the Abu Bakar Mosque for taking on the name of Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Daeng Ibrahim who had ordered construction in about 1892 at a cost of more than $ 400,000. Other than that, the mosque built on a small hill at the edge of the Tebrau Strait has 4 towers resembling several mosques in the countries of West Asia especially in Egypt. Its tower is 2 rounds above and four squares below and vaulted. The mosque can accommodate about 3,000 Muslim worshipers. Moreover, this mosque building art was designed by Tuan Haji Mohamed Arif bin Punak under the rule of the Dato 'Yahya bin Awalluddin. Furthermore, the mosque is also a landmark that proves that Malay engineers are also capable of building beautiful, strong buildings like Europe and Central Europe at the end of the 19th century. The building is square and is heavily influenced by Islamic architectural features. This mosque is square-shaped with 4 porch which each has a dome tower. Architectural style is English Victorian...

One of the excellent architectural colonal building designed for a mosque in Johor Bahru . Marbles used for flooring, walls and covers for the pillars in the mosque. . Situated on a hill along the shores of Straits of Johor, it is distinctively visible as worshipers drive along the road towards the Johor Bahru City. Next to the Pusat Islam Johor on the right and Johor Zoo on the left, it is easily accessible with well maintained roads. . There is a column where the history of them mosque is displayed near the ablution area. Seeing the praying area, the mosque could easily for about 1,000 worshippers maybe more.. . Astonishing architecture and quite spacious mosque with great strategic location facing next to Singapore sea-view border. Visited during Sunday morning and it hasn open yet for public iktikaf. Some muslimah corner inside mosque isn't carpeted and is not air conditioned but we’ll understand due to open air flow and giant fans provided, but i do expect better as it is linked to royal’s mosque nevertheless the ablution and ladies room are well maintained and fully equipped. Another low barred high expectation drop as the muslimah section was only separated by a wooden carved divider from the muslim section. Was expecting a better muslimah prayer corner or it could be they closed section on the day i visited. Anyways, kudos to both security guards as i feel like both of em being attentive towards non-stop visiting jemaahs that day.

I recently visited Sultan Abu Bakar Johor Mosque, and while I was unable to explore it fully due to ongoing repairs and an event taking place, the experience was still worthwhile. From the front of the building, the mosque's architecture is truly impressive. The intricate details and grandeur of the design reflect the rich cultural heritage of Johor. Even though I couldn't enter the mosque or its grounds, I could appreciate its historical and architectural significance from afar. The surrounding area is well-maintained and offers a peaceful atmosphere, making it a pleasant place to visit despite the limitations during my visit. I hope to return in the future to fully explore and appreciate all that Sultan Abu Bakar Johor Mosque has to offer. It's definitely a landmark worth visiting for its beauty and historical importance.

A legendary mosque in JB. It is now open after a long period of renovation. It is near Zoo Johor which so cheap for the entrance. From up here you can get the view of the sea and can see Singapore. Big space of the mosque but no AC which is not a big deal giving the fact that the place is windy from the sea. A lot of parking space and a lot of open space to rest if you want to sleep. Sleep in the pray area is prohibited. Thats why they have the open space outside to rest and sleep. Beautiful design of the mosque even though the design is quite old but with new painting.
