Read moreI stayed for 1 night at the Parallel Aurora accommodation with 2 others and our experience was less than satisfactory. I will start with the upsides:
Towels and clean sheets/pillows were provided.
There was a stove area in the outdoor kitchen where we were able to cook.
Rooms came with air conditioning which was functional and cooling.
Now, the issues:
Outside our accommodation, there was a wooden platform overlooking a part of the jungle. Upon our arrival, my friend went to the platform as there was a hammock area, when one of the planks suddenly fell through. My friend's leg was caught in the hole and she sustained lacerations and serious bruising on her thigh - experiencing pain when sleeping and walking for up to a week after our stay. When we informed the owner, she did apologise and then got us some antiseptics and plasters. We then said that the platform is not safe and should be closed off. The owner's team then taped off the area, BUT less than 30 mins later, they had someone replace the plank, knocked it in with some nails and then reopened the area. This is DANGEROUS as the platform should clearly be reviewed and restructured. Further, my friend could have sustained worse injuries if anything happened with the rusty nails. Although the owner and her family did apologise when seeing us, how this matter was handled was not satisfactory.
Cleanliness and safety was concerning. There was significant mold in our toilet which is not only dirty but it is unsanitary and unsafe. The glass panels on the entrance door - some fell off and should be replaced immediately. Also at the curtain at the entrance door there was a used plaster stuck at the bottom - presumably from a previous guest which is disgusting and should not have been overlooked.
It is worth noting that I expressed my concerns above after checking out and as compensation, the owner refunded 50% of our stay - this was appreciated. This place has a lot of potential, especially location-wise (and the accommodation designs are unique), but it DESPERATELY needs some maintenance, upkeep and refurbishment. Despite its low price point, safety and cleanliness should never be...
