Sungai Lembing, the El-Dorado of Southeast Asia, has been the deepest and largest tin mining in the world. It was once occupied by up to 10,000 residents, now left memories and few attractions. Probably the most peaceful town we've ever been.
This noodle stall is called 凤姐山水醸豆腐 Yong Tau Fu. We took the basic curry noodles, then added 6 pieces of Tau Fu. Handmade tofu so good. Each at around RM1.00-RM1.20. Curry broth taste rich but not overpowering. Worth trying.
Char Kuey Teow from another stall was too good. Full of wok hei. The char is literally obvious on the Kuey Teow. No cockles added. Yet they added pork, chicken and egg. Served with chilli sauce. That aroma ❤️🔥.
It seems like Stinky Tofu but it isn't. No pungent smell at all. They called it Fragrant Spicy Tofu from another stall. Silky soft inside, crispy outside. Topping and sauces made it taste like Rojak. Highly recommended 🔥.
Drinks from another stall. The stall look more exciting than the drinks itself. Teh Tarik taste like at mamak 👐🏼. Check "Kuantan" story highlights for more info.
Food court seems run down and that's the beauty of this place. Stall vendors here are making their own dishes, no foreign maids. Buildings here not eye catchy and vibrant. Just the vintage way. Most of the stuffs were repaired and reused. Not newly purchased.
No supermarkets & hardware stores like we get in Klang Valley yet they keep the place running. That mesmerises me more than the food or anything else.
Least we could do is to visit & contribute to local businesses, behave mannerly, and respect the culture and lifestyle here. One beautiful thing in this town is all the vendors are so attentive, they stand up and smile even if you drive by...

RECOMMENDED FOOD: San shui yong tau foo. People crowd around the three yong tau foo stalls - tofu made with mountain water or "San Sui Tau Fu". As for the noodle, you can choose to have the clear soup or curry version. "Brothers" 兄弟 yong tau foo. “Apple” yong tau foo 苹果小食檔 located beside “Brothers” “Ah Fong” Mountain Water Tofu 阿鳳麵檔 which was featured in Axian's popular TV show (1/8/16) located at the inner corner of the food court next to the side entrance of the wet market.
I find both “Brothers” and “Apple” are equally good while “Ah Foong” was below expectation. Be patient waiting in line at all three stalls during the peak season. Ah Jin noodle stall 阿金小炒 located next to Ah Foong yong tau foo and facing the side entrance of the wet market. Noodle available: Fried Chew Tiao, Tomato Noodles, Hakka Noodles, Spicy Noodles, Curry Pork. Try the tomato noodle. Siew Yoke at the sectioned-off back part of the wet market (morning only). The elderly man sells both pork and siew yoke. The siew yoke is good, if not better than the famous Ah Ding. You could order RM10 or more of siew yoke and eat in the food court (in a group, perhaps buy RM5 per person)
You can have an early breakfast of yong tau foo before heading for the Rainbow Waterfall or Bukit Panorama.
The food court is open...
Read moreRainbow falls breakfast stop! Food isn't fantastic but it's good! Love their hakka noodles, braised yam noodles & chilli fried tofu. The yong tau foo stall had a super long queue so we decided to give it a miss. There's a also egg & toast set and hot & cold drinks like milo, kopi & teh. They're the only area that opens so early for business so it's pretty much the only option for the early bird going to catch the rainbow...
