Wow what a way to spend an evening!
Visited on the 13 Aug, following booking months before our stay in Gozo. Booked because I liked the reviews I read & because it was a local business. Additionally, it was the first time I had visited a winery which actually had grapes growing. I had always picked the wrong time elsewhere.
Everything from the first email contact to end of the evening was absolutely spot on. We had such a lovely time. It was so interesting & educational. I will always look at wine differently now & appreciate what goes into wines & the relentless hard work necessary, to produce quality wines which are not large scale 'mass produced'.
What Tal-Massar Winery do & what they produce is an absolute credit to their dedication & hard work. They are such lovely people, they deserve every success going, to reward their hard work & dedication over many years. To hear their story is just so interesting & compelling. They are both hosts to be admired. We loved every minute we were there & certainly came away a lot more educated on wine, than when we arrived!!
Trust me you will not be disappointed. If you're in Gozo or thinking of going, this has to be a 'must'. We intend to go back to Gozo again in the future & a return visit will be on the cards.
The cost represents excellent value for money. The wines & food...wonderful all round. The setting & views...beautiful. All three of us had a perfect evening.
I also want mention transport. I didn't want drive (for obvious reasons) so booked taxis to & from Kercem via transport company TRAC, who came recommended by the winery. I can see why, the service was outstanding. Collected dropped off when we wanted & collected on time at the end of the evening by such friendly & pleasant drivers. The Taxi recommendation was spot on & made for a stress free wonderful evening.
In the email exchange I had some 4 months before our holiday, there was line "We will do our very best to make your experience a truly enjoyable one! ". You absolutely did that & more. Thank you so much.
We came away with a couple of bottles of white, a red & the fortified liqueur wine. My intention was that all 4 would make their way back to England. Unfortunately, reflecting on the wonderful taste experience, only two made it back to England. The others were appreciated in the way we were taught on the evening back before we left. The 2 that made it back, will be appreciated in the way we were taught, when the three of us have a reminiscing evening together. An important local piece of Gozo made it back to England & will be drank with fond memories of a wonderful evening at the Tal-Massar Winery. Thank you, both. Good luck with all your...
Read moreAnyone who doesn’t leave a 5-star review clearly went to the wrong vineyard! Today was my second visit and won’t be my last - I’ve taken family and friends along to Anthony’s wonderful wine tasting sessions and thoroughly recommend Tal-Massar to anyone wanting to experience this Gozitan craft that dates back to the time of the Phoenicians.
Anthony has a wealth of knowledge and shares the whole story of his wonderful wines from grape to glass. Generously priced, you get three full bottles for the table (a white, a rosé and a red) as well as a glass each of his dessert wine and port, all paired with specific meats and cheeses to match. If you’re lucky, there’ll be something sweet prepared by his lovely wife too! Anthony guides you through the characteristics of each wine and what to look for in their flavours and food pairings.
As well as being a delicious experience, it’s a chance to learn more about a product most of us take for granted when picking off the supermarket shelves, with Anthony on hand to answer questions and provide insights into the whole wine making process.
If you have even a passing interest in wine and find yourself in Gozo, definitely book in for a wine tasting session at Tal-Massar. You’ll take some bottles home with you to keep you going until you visit...
Read moreI wanted to start this off by saying that Anthony truly just went above and beyond for my girlfriend and I. We accidentally booked the wine tour on a day where he usually doesn’t host them and Anthony still decided to show up and give JUST US the tour of a lifetime instead of understandably cancelling it. I’m not the most avid wine drinker, however, the way that Anthony explains how the wine is brought from his very own vines to our table, with history, facts and so much more is absolutely fascinating. I walked out of that vineyard with a smarter brain and a much fuller stomach.
The wines that he presented to us were truly amazing. Starting with the white wine, then the rose, leading to a red wine, finishing it off with an incredible liquor (all of course made in house). The aromas, colors and flavors in each one of those were vibrant and you can tell how it they were meticulously made with love, care and great knowledge for the craft.
The time, effort and dedication put into creating this amazing experience is truly applaudable. I’d recommend anyone to come here if they want to try some great wines, learn more about how wines are made, gain more knowledge on Malta, meet a charismatic vintner, or just to have a great time with someone they...
