We literally stumbled across this lovely resturant whilst staying in Gharb when we saw a beautiful sign to 'il kunvent ' and we are so glad we did. We managed to get an early reservation and from the moment we arrived it was magical. Aden our waiter was so attentive, introducing the specials, helping us choose the best wine. He made us feel cared for and special. The food was considered and the atmosphere was like being in a zen garden.
We loved it so much that we came back for a second time. This time slightly later. At the end of the night the chefs came out to speak to all the guests.
This is a place where the whole staff team really care, not only about the food, but the whole experience of its guests.
The prices are also incredibly reasonalble compared to other places on the island. Meaning we had a 3 course meal for less than anywhere else we have eaten and this was not a reflection of the quality. In comparison we ate at a hotel just up the road which was twice the price and our food was cold because they took so long to get us a knife and fork!
If i was to give any constructive feedback to il kunvent.. It would be to make sure all the wines on the menu are cold, as on our second visit we were unable to have our wine of choice because it hadnt been chilled Although the fact they wouldn't serve it also says a lot. The only other advice would be to put dressings on the salads. Although this could be a Maltese thing as other salads i have had have been without a dressing.
I understand that this place has not been open for long, but i truly hope it doesn't loose its magic and consideration for the customer. It stands you aside from the...
Read moreHad a terrible experience at Il-Kunvent. We chose to visit given the good reviews the restaurant got but our experience did not meet those expectations. It was a disaster from start to finish.
Firstly we ordered starters and mains, we were then shocked when our mains came out within 30 mins of sitting down with no sign of the starters. On questioning this with the server he said he was too busy talking to his colleague he forgot to put in the starter. His only resolution was that we get our starters after our mains if we wanted. Although the mains were cooked well and tasty they were not filling and small especially for the high price point 26€ a dish.
As our mains did not fill us up we went ahead with the local platter. This was nothing special served with what looked like an undercooked sausage. This again not worth the money.
The service throughout was very poor with one server never talking to any of the tables and once our server knew we were having issues with our dining experience he made no effort to try and enhance this for us. He was in fact very rude and unhelpful.
The next issue lied with the fact a local cat roams the terrace. It felt very unhygienic that a cat was walking below tables, sitting below our seats and even touching our legs when we were trying to eat our meals. On mentioning this to the server he showed no sympathy and he said that it was a neighbourhood cat, he seemed surprised that this was something we would not enjoy during our dining experience.
All in all there are better places in Gharb and Gozo to go for more tasty, authentic (and cheaper) meals with far superior service.

Read moreThe restaurant is fittingly situated within the quaint square of Gharb. You will not find a more immersive location, notwithstanding the restaurant's aesthetic. Our experience was as follows: (1). We were greeted with smiles on arrival and politely directed upstairs to a delightful seating. All of the necessities are top-notch: cutlery, comfortable chairs, and plenty of floor space between guests. Full wine list. (2). With food, we were treated to an exquisite array of local pleasantries. I would highly suggest the rabbit liver and pork belly, as these were of the highest standard in terms of flavour and taste. My taste buds were ever so thankful for this generous introduction. (3). We followed with a pizza each, and I was equally as pleased with the offering– generous portion, fresh, golden crust, not 'overfilled' with toppings as you find too often here. Au contraire, a delicious combination of ingredients with my funghi pizza. (4). I would also extend a thank you to the service staff, the kitchen staff and the chefs– everything was tended to within mere moments of our request.
Having frequented all number of restaurants across the world, I can safely say we will be returning to Il–Kunvent...
