Not a good experience, the food was mostly mediocre and the prices charged are higher than those displayed on the menu! A con, avoid if you don't want to be overcharged!
Fish soup was good, but the duck was over cooked (asked for medium rare) and tough as boots. The lamb wasn't great either, also dry and not very tasty.
But worst of all is that the prices charged have no relation to what is written in the menu. Example, on the menu displayed outside the restaurant the duck is 20 euro, on the menu given to you at the table it is 25 euro (OK you think, has gone up, they should update the one outside), but then the price actually charged was 28 euro! Almost 50 percent more than the price displayed outside! Same for lamb, same for soup, same for everything. Wine like water (menu price 3 euro a glass, actual price 4.25). One bottle of water also 4.25!
We pointed the inflation out and were told, "sorry those are the new prices, if you want you can see the new menu", so basically they keep one "new" menu (for tourists?) to try and ward off complaints but don't give it to you at the table. The final total price is outrageously expensive for the quality 110 euro for 3 mediocre dishes and two small soups and 1 desert (+3 drinks and water). We ate a far better meal the day before at one of the best restaurants on Malta for less! No bread served, no table mats. You are paying top dollar for work canteen standards. There is a reason the place was almost empty. My recommendation is to avoid. Locals told me the same thing afterwards, that's why it is empty.
Last but not least, the owner has responded that we arrived at 9pm and our child was very tired. Not that it matters (why would that justify overcharging, does the price increase after 9pm?) but that is also a blatant lie, we left arrived at 19.40, other people arrived long after we did. If we were penalised because our ten year old was very tired after the long day and slow service then that shows you how nice this place is. I'm not a complainer, the majority of my reviews are positive. But by all means, try it out if you prefer to form your own opinion and are willing to pay the menu markup.
There is simply no excuse for this. FIRST you print new menus and also display them clearly outside, THEN you increase prices, not the other way around. It is simply a matter...
Read moreI expected fresh fish.and seafood. We ordered shrimps with avocado as a starter (1/5). Baby shrimps were not fresh (defrost or from a jar) and served with avocado that seemed to be cut in the morning and held in water the whole day. The shrimps were covered in some mayo sauce (what for I ask, dressing on the side ok). Half of the plate was filled with unnecessary veggies (peppers, cucumbers, not cherry tomato wedges, capars, red bean seeds etc, veggies not bad, but we ordered shrimps with avocado...). To the main courses. We ordered catch of the day (25€), sea bass (3/5). We were asked if we wanted a fillet, as we were with a 2,5 yo baby we said yes. We got 100 maybe 150 grams of fish meat...with fishbones that we had to pick on our own anyway. The homemade sauce for the fish was served on the side and was fantastic (5/5). Tomatoes and artichoke I think. Really incredible. The other main course was my favorite baby octopusses. I really love them. I left one untouched. I expected nice fresh octopus. Cooked/boiled whatever. It appeared to have been frozen forever and served in a salty sauce without any particular flavor (1/5). We were also served a metal plate with baked potatoe wedges (5/5- really awesome) and some baked veggies (aubergines but mostly green beans 4/5). The service was nice 3/5. Still 76€ for a dinner for two adults with a baby and one 15€ bottle of pinot grigio was a waste of time and money. The food I came there for was simply bad, the service and side dishes were the bright side. I will never go...
Read moreI was looking a place to eat dinner, during my first night in Gozo. So, I found that Salvina was still open and entered. The waiter, welcomed me really friendly and took me to the available table. After I checked the menu, I decided to try the local dish of rabbit stew and a beer. I received the beer and some really nice grilled bread. After 15-20 minutes, from the moment I placed the order, I received a big dish with hot stew and three fresh made side dishes. I really enjoyed. The meat was so good cooked that you didn't need the use of the knife. The side dishes, great. I really enjoyed the vegetables. I really recommend that place.
Just one thing. Please update the menu that you got at the entrance. The prices were different with the one that I received at...
