Melkbos beach had always been an absolute favorite and a place close to many hearts. A flat, couples of km long Beach, that soft sand everyone is always after, and the ocean that never disappoints. If you want to surf, Melkbos is not your beach. Melkbos is for the rest of us, for walking, swimming, playing beach games, spending family time and having a royal good old time. The water floor is great - it is very flat, so you have to walk quite a distance into the water before it will meet you at hip height or chest height. What I like about that is that you really make a conscious decision of how deep you want to go. Low tide you can literally just throw yourself on your back and drift, letting the water gently raise and lower you as the waves roll to shore. Don't underestimate high tide - I've had some good waves knocking me head over heels to shore (Melkbos knows how to steal shades off your face lol, it has 2 pairs of mine and counting), but the laugh afterwards is always worth it. Around the beach, you can buy your ice cream, go to restaurants, or go to the shop for your goodies. There's also 0ublic toilets spaced out along the beach, and during festive season you will always have competent life guards eagle eyeing you, which is great. One word of advice - that water is cooooooold - so after your swim, in the heat of Xmas, don't think the sun is only warming you. Put sunblock on, or you will come home lobster colored and peeling in a few days. But if you want a day with the family and the dog, go give Melkbos a try, you won't be sorry. Not even on 2 Jan, the busiest day of the year for the beach will you not find space on the beach for you and you loved ones - it's more than big enough. And if grandma and grandpa wants to come with and not sit on the sand, bring your gazebo or umbrella and chairs and park on the netly cur grass. Come have a moment...
