Because of the strong currents and undertow, safe swimming is restricted to certain beaches in Los Cabos. El Chileno is a public beach about halfway between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. Getting there's easy using the Ruta del Diserto buses (66 pesos one way from SJC). It has modern washrooms and showers and a boardwalk down to the beach. The sand right at the shoreline is soft, but beyond that it's pebbley and rough. If you not used to the sun an umbrella is a necessity as there's no natural shade. They charge $10 USD or 200 pesos (which is actually about $11, but who's going to quibble- its Mexico, right?). Or you can bring your own. You also need to bring your own beverages as there are no vendors on the beach- which is actually a good thing. Very busy on weekends, reportedly less so during the week. Very nice views and the snorkeling is said to be good. Safe swimming areas are well marked and there are lifeguards (at least on weekends). It's...
Read moreI found Chileno Bay Beach to be a great beach to spend a day at. Snorkelling is best in and around the rocks to the right of the beach when you walk down the boardwalk. I would recommend water shoes/flippers as you’ll need to take breaks on the rocks and there are a few sea urchin’s as to be expected. Maybe a life jacket as well if you have little ones or if your not the strongest swimmer, as the under tow can work against you. Pack a lunch and drinks as public food options are limited. There are public bathrooms and showers just up the boardwalk. Parking lot can get quite packed. There are beach vendors that rent chairs and umbrellas at about $38CAD (1 chair, 1 umbrella) so if your going for a day you may as well bring those too. I found the sand to be more rocky towards the left of the beach and beyond. It’s a blue flag beach which means it has upkeep standards to meet, I would recommend...
Read moreBeautiful family friendly beach Clear blue water Not too harsh waves Great for swimming Had a lot of fun waking in sand and swimming with the kids. Inspite of being small, it didnt get overly busy. One issue for tourist is the availability of shade. There are people renting umbrellas and chairs, which are very heavily used and beaten up, we got broken chairs and exchanging them was a hassel. Also no place to eat at or near the beach , so go prepared, especially if you are using Tqci/Uber to visit. Boardwalk leading to the beach can become very hot hence the signs to walk with ahoea on. Small but decent showering stations and bathrooms at the parkinh end of the boardwalk. Lot of boats near the beach with multiple activities may block the view if you are ina mood to click pictures all the way to horizon. Overall worth spending a few hours if you...
