We were excited for our 1st stay here. There were few things we wished were better. The cleanliness of our room and noise level weren't the best. We checked in to cabin #4 to find ants all over the couch, the bedside table, the floor, and then our bags we set down near them upon arrival. My husband asked Ottavio, who had just checked us in, for some bug spray. Even after my husband sprayed all the infested areas there were still a lot of remaining live ants. My husband showed Ottavio, after doing a quick check of the room, the source of where the ants were coming from. There was leftover food under the couch cushions. Ottavio took photos and immediately cleaned under the cushions. Ottavio agreed that the room just hadn't been cleaned properly. I wasn't comfortable staying in a room with ants so I decided to notify our host Trey to ask for a different room. Thankfully Trey immediately accommodated us as best as he could by refunding us and switching us to cabin #2 which was much cleaner w/ no ants. Both Trey and Ottavio were very apologetic and helpful in resolving the issue promptly which truly helped us to feel better about our stay. At night the guests in cabin #3 were rather loud and were playing their music really loud as well when we had a long day and just wanted to rest and relax. It was as if they were on our patio outside our door, that's how loud they were. Thankfully it didn't last all night. We're from LA so we are no strangers to partying, however this trip we we're trying to escape the loud everyday hustle and bustle to have a serene escape. We decided to check out early after construction workers arrived and construction work began around 9am, because we had enough loud noises the night before. I was never notified of any construction in our booking info or emails thereafter, I assume it is because our original booking was for cabin #4 which was not impacted by this noise. Still would have been nice to be aware of in the booking info, but not a deal breaker since we were not staying any longer.
Overall, our experience was not what my husband and I had hoped for. We really wanted a clean calm getaway in a semi remote area away from the party scene in playas to relax and recharge. That is what many of the reviews of past guest described when we decided to book.
Native Residence is a beautiful place and the staff are really outstanding, hence the amount of star ratings we gave. We were really grateful for the immediate and professional way in which the issues with the uninvited guests in our original room was handled.
Some recommendations: Better wifi connectivity, we were having trouble receiving text messages from our host Trey during the problem resolution and refund New mattresses, our mattress in cabin #2 had this huge dip in the center that seemed pretty warn in and was uncomfortable to sleep on A body length mirror and small shelves in the bathroom Mention the construction at Native Residence w/ each of the booking sites overview info for total transparency Better cleaning service, food not cleaned from previous guests attracted ants to infest our original room booked and the Jacuzzi had grey murky water and it was apparent it had not...
Read moreThis BNB is beautiful, well furnished and thoughtfully designed. We were looking for a place that would be comparable to our home, and our room here was certainly nice for the area. The bed was comfortable, linens were newer and clean, and generally everything worked. When the water was not hot enough for our shower, the employee remedied it immediately. Good water flow, cold AC, and spectacular views (when we could open the windows - see more below).
Do note that there is about 60 steps to reach your room from the parking, this may be difficult for people with more limited mobility. It's another 20 or so steps to the common area/kitchen. That is the price you pay for the great views.
The shared kitchen / common area is stocked as would be my home kitchen, with quality cookware and it was easy to prepare our food. The wifi quality was on and off, for the most part, it did not work well. If you need wifi to work, you will need to re-evaluate staying here.
We did use the hot tub, but found it extremely dirty so we didn't use it again. We have a hot tub at home, and I maintain it myself - so I can confidently say this hot tub is not maintained properly. On the day we left, it looked like someone had drained and cleaned it, so not sure if someone else had mentioned this to the staff.
During our stay, there were people right outside our window either mulling around or working, so we lacked privacy, and felt we couldn't open our curtains to the view while the workers were there. This was the main reason we stayed here, so we felt it significantly diminished the value. We also felt this compromised security, as they were right outside our room and could easily see what we had inside. We felt uncomfortable because of this, and left early, forfeiting a night of our reservation (~$120 USD).
We found the price we paid was a bit expensive for the area and for around the same price, you could get an entire apartment in a gated community with 24/7 security, with no one standing directly outside monitoring your every movement. While we did not feel unsafe here, we didn't like the random people literally standing steps from our windows all day. Also, the community gate on the road to the property was never closed, and we did not see any guard there. There were also wild dogs running around, so we didn't want to venture too far on foot. You will need a car to stay here, and bring your own groceries or buy from their kitchen - there are limited options in the area. Still, there is not much that the owner might do to control...
Read more10/10 Recommend. Pet Friendly and W O W this hotel has mind blowing views from every angle. The design and staff are outstanding. By far the best pet friendly hotel I have been to.
My dog and I are traveling around the world. So, we have stayed at just about every pet friendly hotel available. Porter is a black lab mix rescue dog. He was severely abused in his early life and has always been on a leash and never able to roam freely as a dog.
This hotel is the first place we have been that immediately encouraged me to let him off the leash to roam as he wishes. And, roam he did!
Porter L O V E S every inch of this hotel. He has gone up and down all the stairs, down all the employee only areas, and even under the containers. He was snuggled up in bed and completely passed out by 7 pm.
For those with larger dogs, keeping the water dish in the shower is a great idea. Worked well so Porter didn’t drip water all over the place and if it went on the floor, it went down the drain.
The hotel: The design and build are spectacular. There is not a single detail that was not thought of. This is not a place that pays to have photos look better than reality. The pictures are stunning and do not do justice.
Beds are comfortable. Pillows are fluffy, accent pillows are perfect. Both the sheets and duvet cover are soft and to the touch you know they are good quality. Throw blankets are great quality. Could it be Turkish cotton?
The décor is a combination of rustic and modern with accents of Mexican culture woven in. From the tiling in the bathroom to the accent walls, to the artwork and the fabric ceiling. All wonderful and if you appreciate Mexico these touches will warm your heart.
WiFi over the entire property and there is even a projector with smart TV capabilities!!
Outside, each unit has its own private lounge area with spectacular views of the mountain and sea. The entire property is loaded with succulents. A plant lover’s dream.
Instead of phones, they have radios in each room. Like walkie talkies. Did I catch a niner there? Ha ha if you get that line, we can be friends.
On the highest level, there is a shared indoor and outdoor lounge area. You can order breakfast and smoothies as you wish from 8-4 every day.
Will be back soon! [we...
