TLDR: Chichen Itza/Cenotes is a must do!, Isla Mujeres is fun but this package is not for young kids, splurge for the dolphin package, you might need to get lunch yourself, finding your taxi after the boat trip is a mess, and the service and care overall are really wonderful.
CHICHEN ITZA We did a package that included transport, buffet lunch, shopping time, a tour of the archeological site, swimming in a cenote, and a brief visit to a colonial era church. Kudos to our driver Miguel, and Gabriel & Carlos, who enthusiastically provided lots of wonderful information about the history and culture of the Maya (in English and Spanish--impressive!) and kept us well-apprised of what was coming when, and provided advice and support. For instance, they warned us about the sales tactics of the many sellers at the site; and truly looked out for our well-being. I so appreciated that. And the sights were very different to anything anywhere else I've traveled--the temples and ruins very distinct, and the natural formations magical. If I had to do only one tour on our trip--I'd have chosen this one, very enjoyable. There are lots of fun little experiences peppered in along the way--all with an option to purchase, but not at all pushy, and apparently for a good cause.
ISLA MUJERES We did a package that included taxi to the marina, boat transport, snorkeling, free time on the Island, and a dolphin experience. In my review of the Chichen Itza tour by the same company, I said we were kept well informed of the schedule and what to expect. For this one, it felt more like a big party. At times much information, at times less. For instance--several folks brought their young kids bc the salespeople it appears misrepresented--note that according to Mexican law children under 5 cannot snorkel (even with accompanying adult) and adults over 50 cannot snorkel. This particular trip I feel was less kid-friendly; if I had a child I'd book my own travel to the island and do the dolphins only.
Kudos to Jorge and Eduardo who kept us in line, especially Jorge, who helped this first-time snorkeler not get lost. Note: They ask you not use sunblock to protect the reef from chemicals; so I got a small burn there, but it is the price of nature. Also, they provided life-belt and snorkel mask; no flippers. Our route took us over part of the sunken gallery, but with the large group I saw about as much of other people's feet as fish and coral haha. After the snorkeling, the complimentary bar opened and the boat basically became a party-boat. Not that your kids wouldn't be ok, but it definitely felt geared more towards adults.
On the island, Jorge recommended a taxi tour, and we had the estimable Victor, who was terrific at finding the best sights to stop, was patient when we needed more time at our beachside massage, took me back to look for my lost phone, AND recommended a simple and efficient lunch from a lady who made tasty sandwiches. Note: There was an included buffet but we didn't get there until almost 3PM after our dolphin time.
The dolphin experience was perhaps my favorite part of the day-- definitely worth the price! They take photos but purchase is optional. After that we chilled and then it was back on the party boat to go home. Jorge also gave us a great recommendation for a party dinner--Monkey Business.
I will say finding our taxi after the boat returned was a cluster, the one disorganized moment in an impressively refined process. We ended up being passed to a different driver and then abandoned him to pay for another taxi because he got stuck looking for some other riders and we sat for...
Read moreAvoid booking online reservation from this company!! Trust me you don't want to go through what I had to go through booking tours from their website--SAVE YOURSELF FROM A HEADACHE. I booked this agency for CHICHEN ITZA TOUR and XELHA ADMISSION and had a horrible experience! I had no problem with the tour or the admission but my problem was BOOKING THEM. I usually don't write bad reviews but this company gave me too much headache and inconvenience that I don't want any one else to experience the same.
I booked two tours online and got an email that I have to send them back a credit card authorization form AFTER they already charged my bank account. I was a little bit skeptical but since I've used them with my first trip to Cancun (had no problem), I thought that okay I'll give them a try again. Anyway, so I sent them back the CC authorization form along with a picture of my CC and later on got an email that couldn't accept it b/c I didn't mark the CC on the designated area. I emailed them back saying that they have an instruction on the email that if I couldn't mark the CC then I can send them a copy of my CC and which I did, but they still did not accept it. So, I tried to mark my CC and didn't get a respond from them, I decided to give them a call and check on my reservation. The lady said from the phone told me that everything was good and I should receive a boarding pass within a couple hours. So I waited.. couple hours happened and no boarding pass. I decided to email again and no answer until the next day I got an email from "Limber Ortiz" who told me that I need to send the authorization form again with the CC impression in the requested area and he said, "Please try to make the same signature as the one in your ID" So I tried again and this time, I took pictures of the form instead of scanning them. So no response again, so I called the agency again and was told by a lady that EVERYTHING checked out and just need to send boarding pass within couple hours. I waited again.. so this exchange of emails and phone calls with the same response from Limber saying that I need to send CC form again and another lady on the phone saying everything was good happened for about 6 times until we finally got to Cancun and still had no boarding pass for our tour.
I ended up talking to Limber on the phone (finally) the day we arrived in Cancun and he told me that I could go to their office and they will print the boarding pass. I was so pissed off that I told him that I understand that this is bank policy, but he can't keep telling me that my CC form wasn't approved and I would call and a lady would tell me that everything was fine and will get a boarding pass within couple hours because it is such a inconvenient! I asked him if him and that lady are working at the same company because it is ridiculous that they were saying both different things & needs to get their things straighten out!
We ended up taking the bus from our hotel to their office and finally got the boarding pass. I really wanted to cancel the tour from them BUT they had already charged my account since the beginning and it would take time to put the money back to my account plus I didn't want to deal with them any more because it might be worse cancelling tours with them.
Anyway, I advise you not to book online tours from them. I have friends & family who will be coming to Cancun and I was going to refer this agency to them but after this experience, I will NEVER EVER book with them again nor refer them to any of my...
Read moreThis is the 3rd time we've used My Cancun Tours. We selected this company because of their reviews and cancellation policy. We were scheduled to leave Arizona for Cancun on 3/19/2020. We found out on 3/18/2020 that Bookit.com closed their doors and weren't paying any hotels for their guest's stays even though money was collected. We contacted My Cancun immediately after on 3/18 to proceed with the cancellation policy which states if we provide notice within 48 hours we would receive 100% of our monies back. I emailed 7 seven times and called four times to get bounced around each time. Arturo in Customer Service was the most unprofessional person to have dealt with. The first response to my email was to consider the 60 Mexican families I am putting under duress by not keeping my reservation. Hello! I'm Mexican and due to Bookit.com stealing our $4,100 vacation we are now under duress as well. I emailed again several times after that where Arturo said I should reschedule to use the excursions within 12 or 24 months...yes that's an option because we can afford to fork out another $4k for a vacation we've been saving for for over a year. Calling My Cancun Tours was even worse. Limber was the first person on the phone and he was useless. We selected option #3 for Customer Service and then he tells us he is Reservations and can't help us. He couldn't transfer us, we had to call another number and that number didn't work. Limber told us to call back in a couple of hours since they were at lunch. We waited the 2 hours, called back and had the pleasure of speaking to Arturo on the phone. Again, useless and wasn't willing to assist us in any way. We asked for management, he said that all calls stop with him and they aren't taking any calls. He said management won't authorize a refund for our $418 purchase. He apology was less than sincere and didn't express any concern for the issue we were facing but he was more concerned about "appealing to our human side" and consider what we were taking from the 60 Mexican families we were taking from by canceling our excursions. He also sent a photo of these people in the email! We understand the world is going through a difficult time, however, this company is still selling tours and running accordingly. Buyer beware! Do not purchase from this company in hopes that should you need to cancel they will refund your money according to...
