Positives I had an early check-in just arrived from a long trip flight and I was immediately taken care of by front desk receptionist Teresa she was the best of all the receptionist I met I highly recommend to talk to her she deserves all the respect and more .
Restaurant staff all were amazing. They are truly friendly and courteous .
Negative review
Sadly, I can't speak the same about Ivan the concierge he acted like if he was the general manager of the hotel told me there was no early check-in and ordered me to get something to eat restaurant while I waited I told him that I had already spoken to the front desk clerk. When I came back from the restaurant my room ready, Teresa helped me however Ivan went to the restaurant to start eating his omelette breakfast and I respected him while he decided to go eat . I went inside my room to take a shower suddenly I hear someone knocking it was Ivan who acted like if he was the general manager of the hotel knocking on my door repeatedly calling my room while I was showering. No apologies
They make you take a shuttle the next day to another hotel from 9 am to 3pm to sell you a beach time share ( they call it private residence ) 16.9 interest total of over $9000 dollars in interest rates an extra $ 2750 closing sale commission and $18,900 for a ocean studio for a week offering you financing and $809 lifetime anual maintenance fees . And it's just get crazier they will open champagne bottle if you buy into it. Then you have to go through another sales manager offer you another discount to stay at 3 hotels if you don't buy . And then you go through another who ask you to write 15 contacts . Gives you a 50 $ spa credit.
Beware of sellers at the Laguna suite by pool
Got ripped off by souvenir jewelry seller bought a chain that was 2600 pesos that I found out was 20$ the seller insisted I pay cash ATM told me he gave me a good deal . He spoke perfect English . Read moreI can't think of a worse experience. Initially we felt good nice room right by the pool. The room smelled so badly of a musty mildewy smell we turned the air conditioner on high and turned the bathroom fan on thinking it would help with the smell. We stayed out of the room all day and when we went back to it that night the smell wasn't any better. Within being in the room for 30 minutes my husband was getting a headache. I started looking around and found where what appeared to be mold was coming through the paint and the ceiling was leaking water. Keep in mind there is a second floor of rooms so where is this water coming from. I went to the desk and reported the problem and explained we cannot stay in the room the way it is. My husband came out and sat by the pool and his headache was getting better. He recently had heart surgery and had issues with his legs so we couldn't go to the second floor because they don't have an elevator. They took me to 3 other rooms and they all had the same moldy smell. While this was going on we learned of 3 other guests that had the same issue the previous day and had to move to 4 different rooms and ended up on the second floor to get rid of the smell. A manager from another property called me and said they were booked up but would move us the next day and our only choice was to go to a second floor room. We went with this and my husband worked his way up the steps. The next day we went to their sales pitch and advised them of the problem and couldn't believe they would even try to sell us with these problems we have experienced without any resolution. Long story short they would not move us to another property unless we would pay and become members with them. The worst part is after all of us that had problems with mold in the rooms and making them aware they continued to let these moldy rooms out to families with children. The pedicure we tried and it was a joke. Nothing more than putting your feet in a bowl of water. Allot if gracious staff but no one able to do anything...

So here is the scoop on the place.....
It is a simple hotel with really nice staff (Dyrion, Fiuberto, Juan and Luz are the kitchen staff. The chief and bar tender do a heck of a job. I can't believe the quality of the meals). The rooms are simple and comfortable. Everything is clean, it is getting a little age on it but it's clean and not to loud. It's also a pretty good location once you learn how the shuttle system works. There are many reviews talking about the hotel it's self so I am going to talk about a few other things ... Right beside the hotel is a golf course that doesn't seam to get much use other than people walking it with their dogs. So if you are a runner it's a great run right by the water. The neighborhood is super safe and laid back. You could run at 10 pm with no worries.
Ok so here is how to take advantage of all the place has to offer. Ever 30 min or so a shuttle stops in and you jump on it and are brought to any of the other properties owned by the resort. This is really handy. You can go to the beach, play put put golf, or walk down to the market area. The shuttle is easy to use and comfortable. My 15 year old son could easily use it. Totally kid friendly.
Here is what I would do if your new to Cancun and want to see something and do it easy. One day take the shuttle to sunset royal go to the beach and swim and lounge. Take a shuttle back and take a nap. That evening go to the sunset Marina and play put put golf. The next day take the shuttle to the marina again and ketch the ferry ($36 for two people round trip) to the island and rent a golf cart and tour the island. This will take about a whole day. The following day go back to the sunset royal in the evening and walk down to the market area. Those are some ideas. There are also fishing and snorkeling. And other tours offered. But we like to...
