This beach is magic, and Chacala is one of our favorite places in the world.
Yes, it is a bit of a rough ride through town, and it is not yet super developed, despite a community of expensive houses at the top of the hill. It is also waaaaay out on a little road to the point that you wonder if you are even going anywhere. For us, that’s all part of the charm and we hope it never changes. (Well, maybe a few less potholes, yes, lol)
When you hit the beach, though, everything else melts away into that incredibly soft sand. The surrounding hills, palm trees and ramadas make it feel like a true lost paradise. The waves are incredible, and at night they can be heard throughout town.

Read moreThe best views I’ve seen in a long time. The water and bay are beautiful and people are nice. Lots of locals. The worst roads to drive through town with giant potholes and rocks, that made us nervous in a little rental car with lower clearance. We made it in and out okay, but be aware, they are rough! We had 4 nights booked and only stayed for 2, it was pretty, but not too much to do besides hike (which we are not hikers) or lay on the beach. We hired a boat to drive us to see 2 other beaches, the boat ride was the best part since we were all laying-on-beach’d out. Gorgeous scenery and homes to see along the coast. Curious to see how this place develops and may visit...
Read moreThis town is blessed with a gorgeous beach but the town itself has little to offer. The roads are falling apart and mostly dirt even through the town center. It is very difficult getting around on these streets with cars, mud and potholes galore. All of this could be improved by good city planning.
There are almost no gourmet restaurants, zero coffee shops with high quality third wave coffee, no gym, no health food store. These things would come if there was...
