We stayed with Karla for six nights this November. We were treated extremely well and Karla's personal touch is apparent in all the rooms--we were fortunately able to tour all of them. There were so many wonderful touches that made the Mexicana Suite feel like home--it felt as though we were truly on vacation. Karla included some basic food items in our refrigerator and encouraged us to voice any questions or concerns that we might have. Rooms also had air conditioning and plenty of fans to keep you cool during the hot days.||||One of the best parts of our stay here was the way Karla was so open to showing us around Chacala and to taking us to local sights. We visited the petroglyphs one day and Karla was more than willing to drive us up there and take us on several hikes. After our few days there, we felt as though we really knew Chacala and the people there.||||The terrace on top of the building is a magical haven where you can easily spend an hour or two relaxing in a hammock or star gazing during the night. It's a quiet escape with a kitchen up above--I found it the perfect place to settle in with a book and spend my afternoons in the cool breeze.||||Because of this highly personal experience, Chacala will be a place we will never forget. It is still very much a hidden gem and the locals are more than friendly--you will end your time in Chacala having made several new friends. Though few residents speak English, you'll be surprised how much you can communicate simply through actions and a smile or two.||||Overall, my experience as Casa Caballito del Mar was what made my time in Chacala extraordinary. Offering the perfect combination of local feel and comfort, Karla has outdone herself in making guests feel welcome. I will be recommending this spot to anyone interested in...
Read moreOur second trip to Chacala and our first of many stays in this delightful Casa. Karla is a warm and friendly hostess. Our room, the Azteca Suite, was very well appointed with every thing we needed to make meals and be comfortable. A table for four inside and a couple of chairs outside our door on the terrace for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. Surrounded by trees and flowers. ||The rooftop terrace is an amazing space to take in the views and lounge around the bar area or stretch out on a hammock. A great place to entertain if you are here with a group. ||There is a family friendly suite and is only a five minute walk to the beach. Everything here is super clean and very well maintained. ||Highly...
Read moreCaballito Del Mar is one of the great places to stay in Chacala, Nayarit. The proprietor, Karla Lawler, has lovely gardens, she is bilingual, is always on-site, and the prices are reasonable. Karla is a pillar of the Chacala community, and her lodgings have a following of annual regulars. Thursday evenings Karla hosts a great rooftop social hour for visitors and residents. Caballito is a block from the best breakfasts in Chacala, at Mauna Kea café, on the rooftop of Casa Pacifica B&B-- and a short walk to the beach and "downtown." I highly recommend it. SORT OF A DISCLAIMER: My winter home is across the street from Caballito Del Mar, and Karla is a good friend. This review is unsolicited...
