Zapopan is a city in central Mexico, next to Guadalajara. It’s known for its Virgin of Zapopan figure, the focus of a popular pilgrimage. The Virgin inhabits a marble altar in the twin-towered Basilica of Zapopan, with its ornate exterior. Contemporary works by Mexican and international artists are on display at Zapopan Art Museum. The Huichol Wixarika Museum showcases handicrafts by a local indigenous group.
