Would we go here again? Sure! We came here because we were on a cruise. We found that booking directly from its website was half the cost than from the cruise line. Yes, there's a possibility that we could be left if we didn't get back to the ship in time, but it was such a long port day that we weren't worried. We found an Uber to get us there from the cruise terminal. It took 20 mins, and It was about $15 for 6 people to get there. We were pleasantly surprised that our tickets included lunch. We couldn't pick from their full menu with it, just a cheese hamburger, hot dog, chicken nuggets, or a salad. It came with a drink. It was something to hold us over until we left to find tacos! We booked the sea lion experience. Dolphins are great, but sea lions are just fun and hilarious. Sea lions don't get enough credit, and we were the only ones in the group! We got to meet and interact with Diego and Popeye. Diego is a sweet young sea lion who was very gentle with our kids. All the interaction with Diego and kids were done on land because the sea lions get close and personable. They would knock the kids out in the water while giving them a kiss. Popeye is a bigger sea lion. All of us in our party got to pet Popeye as he swam numerous times by us. The adults were then able to get the same experience as the kids by sticking our tongues out, opening our mouths with the sea lion, and getting a great big kiss! This was done with pictures that cost 5,400 in pesos. That is about $320 US. That is ridiculous since we can't bring phones/cameras in. That's how they make their money. They won't haggle with you. After our fun with Diego and Popeye, we spent a couple of hours in the water park. It's a little run down but still very fun.

My bride and I visited Aquaventuras Park during our brief stay in Puerto Vallarta. We'd pre-purchased park tickets via Triple A / Carnival two weeks prior, and yet still endured a laborious 45 minute wait in a cramped, humid office while they processed our tickets. Even though we arrived at 11am on the dot, the stated start time posted on our tickets, we were asked to return at 3:45pm for the NEXT "Sea Lion encounter," aka the very reason we chose this park! After a few minutes of deliberations, we wound up receiving a truncated 15-minute, personal experience w/ the sea lion. The caliber of the sea lion show, however, was OUTSTANDING! POPEYE is the park's nine yr old, fun loving and bright eyed sea lion. He entertained us with special tricks, poses and even kissed each of us- On the cheeks. Special kudos belong to employees JESSIE and ANNIE. Jessie is Popeye's trainer/attendant, and you could see the loving bond that she's built w/ this dashing animal. Annie is the staff photographer who skillfully created a beautiful set of 55+ photos to commemorate our sea lion encounter for all posterity. Pro Tip- Aquaventuras is an aging water park, in need of a couple coats of paint and some general TLC. Also, the intake procedures -where you've up to five employees rather aimlessly congregating behind the counter while only ONE employee helps check customers in- could be tightened up. But if you're patient and willing to look beyond the park's need for a face lift...then you'll enjoy yourselves.

The water park was ok. It's not amazing and not all out bad. We got free tickets to this place. We were there when they opened at 11 am. Not many people were there, but they got busier as the day progressed. The place needs some work, and the lazy river had stuff floating in it as it got busier. I believe it was algae?? There are 10 slides, I believe. Several were not open at 11am but opened later in the day. It was a bit unorganized when it came to one operator running 4 slides. Kind of a line, but people were jumping in front. Disorganized, and the operator at this particular spot didn't speak English, so it was hard to communicate other than just pointing. Lots of kid birthday parties in the reserved areas. Dolphin show (which is about 15 mins) was cool. The food was ok, not great. The water in all attractions got really warm as the day progressed. We left at about 3pm as the water was just too warm (mid-July), almost hot tub warm. It was fine for a one-time, free afternoon. But, I definitely wouldn't want to blow a day of vacation if I was only here for 5 to 7 days. *Note, we are probably a bit spoiled and have a higher bar as we are from California, where there are some really nice, huge water parks.

First off, Dolphin Discovery and the dolphin and sea lion programs are 5+ stars. The trainers/presenters are fantastic and fun, the experiences are amazing and everything runs smoothly.

And the sit-down eatery had good food and good service. Be warned the “swimmer meal” that comes with some of the packages is ONLY for hot dogs or cheeseburgers, which come with fries, and only soda for the drink. My kids are both vegetarians so I got one of the cheeseburgers and they both had to order off the menu. The waiter was great though and comped my kiddo’s lemonade and gave us refills of the sodas since we didn’t get a second burger/dog.

The water park, though, was a bit of a disappointment. They boast 10 water slides, but when we were there only 4 were running at first and then eventually more were added, but many of the slides were closed for repair. We wanted to get an icee, but they didn’t have it working, we wanted to get ice cream and they didn’t have chocolate and vanilla! We eventually found both, but it was going back and forth to different places trying to find what they all had advertised.

The overall state of the park is disrepair. The walkways up to the slides are all peeling and the railing and slide paint is chipped . There are brooms and welding hats and other stuff just hanging from or leaning against rails on the walkway.

Besides the slides, the only place for adults to be in water is the “lazy river.” I pictured a serpentine cement river with enough current to move you around it. Unfortunately, it’s a little too lazy and so instead of floating gently along a current, you barely move and get bored.

My kids had a fun time, and for the admission price, it’s still a decent deal, but come prepared with lower expectations. And also, if you plan to do the adventure course, zip lines or climbing wall, bring decent sneakers or shoes. Flip flops or slides make...
