Celestún was high on my list of places to see. I had heard about the flamingos and thought it would be cool to see them up close. Unfortunately for me, the tide had been high for some time leading up to when I was there. As a result, there were only a few dozen flamingos to be seen. We couldn't get super close, which is why the attached pictures aren't great. The colors of many of them were concerning. Due to the high tide, they weren't getting proper nutrients. Their diet is what gives them their beautiful hue. Regardless, it was an excellent experience to be taken back into the mangroves and see some of the different habitats and wildlife Mexico...

That's not a reflection on the people that live there, i understand that its a developing country, but the sheer amount of trash along the borders of what is supposedly a ecological reserve is astoundingly sad. In fact we took a wrong turn and found ourselves infront of a municipal dump with giant mounds of trash being burned, RIGHT Smack along the coast. How can this be allowed? Are there no laws to protect the delicate ecosystems that attract so many tourists...
