Hotel Gutierrez — Hotel in Celestún

(+) Pleasant accomodation with nice decoration (flowers painted on the doors and seashells everywhere) and a good location, close from the Zocalo, the bus station and a private beach.

(-) We lacked crucial information that should have been given to us upon our arrival, for example that there was a fridge and a place to fill up bottles with free water at the end of the corridors. We were woken up in the middle of the first night by the TVs of the two inoccupied rooms next to ours that went on automatically with the sound at the maximum, and after finding no one to help at the deserted desk, trying to call the staff with no more success, we finally managed to switch them off with our TV remote thanks to the fact that the mosquito nets of the windows were not well glued, but it was stressful and ruined a night where we had to wake up early on the next day. But the worst is that when we went to complain to the staff, not only did they not even say sorry, but also they said "yes we know, it happens sometimes", which means they could have at least told us what to do upon our arrival! It's not normal that they couldn't be reached when we tried to call, as if we found ourselves in a case of emergency, I don't know what we could have done. They told us there was a ward around, but we didn't see him and he apparently wasn't alerted by the noise (which was of the same level as if we screamed). There was also a very agressive smell in the bathroom, like chemicals, that didn't get away, maybe because of the renovation work in other rooms (and made us a little worried for our health). MAL SERVICIO, INEPTITUD, FALTA DE ETICA, es lo que describe a los administradores. Desde inicio al check in salieron con la "payasada" de que había reservado una habitación "sin tele" cuando en la descripción de servicios del hotel CLARAMENTE dice canales por cable, así q a menos q sea por "ósmosis", “sin tele” es difícil q los puedan trasmitir… Ese fue el primer problema, aunque no el mas preocupante.. Cuando les mostré la descripción de servicios en la app de booking donde compré me dijeron" tenemos muchos problemas con booking, yo le recomiendo que la próxima vez me reserve directo” y despues añadió "esta noche no tenemos el tipo de habitación SIN tele que reservo, pero le voy a dar una CON tele y PARA QUE VEA no le voy a cobrar nada” .. si no hubiera estado tan enojada por mis primeras impresiones del hotel y sus administradores " Henry y Caro", me hubiera reido.. le dije q me iba a quejar con booking pero al final quedamos de movermos de habitacion. A la mañana siguiente fui a verlos como 10am para hacer el cambio ya que ibamos a salir a la playa y preferiamos terminar con esa molestia y que me dicen no podia cambiar de habitacion en ese momento, que tenia que esperarme a las 12 pm a “hacer check out” y luego me daban la habitacion sin tele a las 3:00 pm. Esta de más decir que pase de molestia a sumamente enojada porque como le tuve que explicar a ese par de administradores claramente sin experiencia, que YO NO ESTABA HACIENDO CHECK OUT y mucho menos CHECK IN. y que este SOLO ERA CAMBIO OBLIGADO DE HABITACION. La tal Caro me dijo que no, que tenia que esperar hasta las 3:00pm y no habia mas que hacer xq tenia que esperar a que el huesped de la habitacion que me iban a dar hiciera check out. Demasiado molesta, le indique que eso era inconcebible. Caro volteo a ver a su marido ignorandome y le dijo : “habla tu con ella”, como si yo estuviera diciendo tonterias y no reclamando el servicio por el que pagué. Me dijeron que no y con tal de no seguir lidiando con tanta ineptitud les dije que dejaria mis cosas listas para que ellos efectuaran el cambio. Al final subi a volver a empacar y hablé a Booking para quejarme con Customer Service de esta muy mala experiencia con booking y con el hotel . Ademas, no solo es mal servicio sino que ademas tienen pocas palapas en la playa y menos camastros para usar.. ademas de unas cuantas sillas, pero como las rentan a la gente que va a la playa, despues ya no hay nada de camastros, ni palapas ni sillas para los huespedes del hotel, pues todos terminan ocupados por gente externa. Eso deja mucho que desear porque muestra que con tal de ganar unos pesos extras, los huéspedes no les importa si tienen o no donde sentarse o o sombra en la playa. Por si esto no fuera suficiente, tenia mucho que no me habia sentido tan estafada. El tal “Henry” hace un tour "para ver a los flamencos" que nos ofrecio “con descuento especial por las inconveniencias”, y resultó ser una vuelta en su carro hacia los faros donde inicia la Ria, luego pasea alrededor de la plaza del pueblo y se para en lo que él, en su ignorancia, considera “avistamiento de Flamencos” que es una parada a un LOTE BALDIO donde hay UNA CHARCA!!!! a la que llegan algunos flamencos, pero definitivamente no la reserva de celestum en la ría donde se encuentran los flamencos. Y tuvo el descaro de cobrarnos por la charca del lote baldio..!!!!!!! Al final nos llevo al muelle donde salen las embarcaciones que SÍ VAN A LA RESERVA... y nos dijo que si queriamos ver más podiamos pagar la lancha.... Es inaudito. NUNCA, y repito NUNCA vayan a aceptar el “tour” como este individuo. Es una estafa TOTAL!!!! Especialmente si vienen de lejos con la expectativa de ver flamencos y no conocen y les muestran eso, se van a sentir muy frustados. Me preocupa ademas lo que pensaran los turistas a los que se "engancha" que viajan desde tan lejos a celestum y ven 15 flamencos!!! van a pensar que no valio la pena su viaje... Celestum muy bien!!! HOTEL GUTIERREZ... PARA NO VOLVER MIENTRAS ESTOS ESTAFADORES LO ADMINISTREN ... DON'T GET CAUGHT ON HENRY...

this is my get way spot from Merida ! third time visit and always enjoyable. A cool bohemian vibe , a sandy shady courtyard leads out to the beach and the little on site cafe, serving huge breakfast (lots of people come for this ) nice big tortas,( Big enough for 2 )or eat half and take away... French press coffee and bread and jam option if you are eating light... the Rooms are very clean and nicely decorated with pretty fabrics , comfy beds and FREEZING AC ( which I love) perfect for siesta ..there was construction noise at back of property , but they moved me when I requested ..cold water and fridge available ... the staff is mostly young people who are rather shy , but certainly nice ...book far ahead for weekends , can be hard to get a room ....secret roof top terrace and first floor communal deck , palapas, hamacas and plenty of chairs ...next to La Palapa , big seafood restaurant , just take all your meals there ... a shady alley between hotel and restaurant has nice souvenirs, ..can walk to little zocalo and tiny mercado ! CELESTUN is the old Mexico before the MEGA RESORTS and package tourism ...very Tennessee Williams ! great value for the money ..EXCELLENT ..and they have a dog with...
