What an impressive Fountain!
This fountain is located right in the middle of the main street. Which can be reached by the teferico or by the little park right across the way.
In the center of the fountain there is a plate made of marble in where underneath are the actual burial grounds of Gen Ignacio Zaragoza and his wife. This plaza has national security 24 hrs around to make sure the remains are not being either vandalized or taken.
The story behind the statue is that the General passed due to sickness so it is represented by the horse standing on 3 legs. If he was to died by natural causes then the horse should be standing on all 4s, and if he was to died in battle then the horse be standing on just 2 legs.
The fountain has 2 other statues one is a soldier armed and ready for battle and on the other a field worker also armed with his machete ready to defend his land. Both sides represent what the battle of 5 de Mayo was about.
