Beautiful gardens in the city centre. Nice relaxing atmosphere close to the Casa de Ferro and Catedral de Maputo, so you could visit all three within walking distance. Great for a day exploring the city. There's some sort of enclosed area in the garden that's under renovation and will really add something special when its eventually complete (it still hasn't opened since I visited it a year ago in 2016). In the centre of the garden there are several trees where really big fruit bats hang out during the day. You can see them in the trees in huge numbers. Really worth the visit even to see...
Read moreSince 1885 this botanical garden survived in the old center of Maputo. Massive tall tropical trees provide shade. There is a small pond and the trails through divers vegetation are well maintained. Birds and bats have chosen the garden to be their home. It is a very tranquil place, excellent for a walk in the morning. Hardly suitable for running as the garden is rather small. Small but lovely gardens - really, more of a park than a botanical garden. Well-kept, with a gateman to maintain order. Quiet, with benches and lawns. Lovely trees, flowers, and a very visible bat colony....
Read moreA nice little green spot in the center of the city and close to the cathedral. The park is clean and well maintained, watered regularly and hence nicely green. The ways and stairs through the woods are wide and provide some nice views, especially when the sun is low and the light shines orange through the green - you might forget to be in the center of the city. You can discover some animals like flying foxes or geckos and chameleons. The park closes at dawn due to security reasons. Beware: Not all entry gates are open all the time, so taking the park as a short cut might end...
