The market is huge selling veg and fruits, dried stuff, condiments, etc. Bustling with cars and bikes as usual with traffic congestion the norm. There's a wholesale centre nearby, jam packed with stalls that I fear for their safety if a fire or SARS were to break out. Full of interesting clothes, textile, shoes, stationary, a couple of shops that sell cosmetics and facial stuff. It's big inside and I always go round lost in the midst. A good tip is to look for sunlight if you want to get out at the ground level. Those are the exits. Good to take a look. Educational. And please buy some items since you are there. You can't get this price anywhere else.

This is the best place to shop in Myanmar for fabric. This is a local market not necessarily for tourists items. If you're looking for Burmese longyi's I recommend getting them here. The prices were better than in Bagan and Yangon. Most shop keepers I met did not speak English. I used Google translate and a calculator to communicate and negotiate prices. There is an upstairs sectors with people who can mend and sew to finish the longyi's. Bring cash as debit and credit cards won't be accepted.

If you want an authentic local market experience then definitely visit this place. It can be very intense as there are many people there especially on the weekends. The roads are pretty narrow and usually should only be a one way street but somehow they get trucks up and down the street both ways. But even if you're not that interested in buying anything it's well worth just walking through and making your way through an interesting maze of paths.

It definitely worths a visit if you are in Mandalay! You can observe the simple burmese people doing their everyday shopping there and you can find all kind of stuff in very good prices. I was the only tourist in the area for as long as I stayed there. However, do check in advance with your hotel/hostel staff the hours that the market is open! Following google suggestions that it opens at 6:00, I arrived there at 7:30, only to discover that the market opens its bars at 8:00, even for the vendors. I left before 9:00 and almost half of the shops were...
