The Visserij- en Cultuurhistorisch Museum in Woudrichem is a small gem that does a wonderful job of preserving the riverside fishing heritage of this part of the Netherlands. The museum collection is impressively thorough given its size—old nets, traditional boats, models, and displays of old crafts like rope making, tanning, and blacksmithing give you a vivid picture of how fishing by the river used to sustain generations. I found the layout friendly and with good attention to detail. The explanations are clear, photographs and models help bring the historical techniques to life, and there’s a genuine warmth from the volunteers who run the place. It’s not a museum with grand rooms or high-falutin architecture, but its modest size works in its favour—every exhibit feels earned, every corner feels part of the story. The building is accessible, parking is free in the vesting, and the location next to the historic town makes combining a visit with a walk very easy. Five stars, in my view.
