Unique sight, which only takes a couple of minutes. To use all available space a few home-owners have built their kitchens over the canal. Picturesque, especially on a sunny day. Local shops have nice artwork if you can't get a good shot yourself. (My stay unfortunately was 100% rain. Check the website buienradar.nl for detailed weather a few...

Leuk om deze unieke hangende keukens te zien. We waren er op een zonnige dag en hebben op alletwee de brugjes foto’s genomen. Overigens zijn het maar drie hangende keukens, zelf verwachtte ik dat het er veel meer zouden zijn. Des te leuker dat ze bewaard gebleven zijn. Op de website van de gemeente Eemsdelta staat: De voormalige pakhuizen staan letterlijk in het water van het Damsterdiep. Vlak boven de waterspiegel was een soort stoepje met een deur, waardoor de schippers hun waren konden aanleveren. Later zijn de pakhuizen tot woonhuis omgebouwd. Daarbij maakten de bewoners houten uitbouwsels boven het water, als plek voor de keuken. Vandaar de naam hangende keukens.
