📍 Eindhoven / Netherlands 🇳🇱 🏛️ The Van Abbemuseum
"The 'new' Van Abbemuseum is comprised of the renovated landmark building by architect A.J. Kropholler, dating from 1936, and two new sections. Both the renovation and structural alterations to the older part of the museum as well as the new sections are by the Dutch architect Abel Cahen. He has succeeded in organically integrating the old building into a new and larger complex. Despite its monumental character, the new building maintains the human dimensions so characteristic of the former museum. Massive installations or sizeable exhibitions as well as smaller intimate projects - such as showings of prints and drawings - can all be presented thanks to the variety of the exhibition areas. Cahen's distinctive design makes a notable contribution to Dutch museum architecture. The museum also has a whole range of new facilities, created by the Belgian designer Maarten van Severen including an auditorium and an education centre, which will accommodate a wide spectrum of public events."

Read moreI just have one full day in Eindhoven and I am the type of person that doesn't plan anything when I visit new cities. So what I did is to ask locals and also look at instagram to know which places do tourists go here in Eindhoven. And luckily enough, I came across the Van Abbemuseum which by the looks of the exterior of the building, is really cool. What I love the most about this museum is that it has a whole story that binds all of their artworks together. Also, I was touched when they have the braille system for those who are visually impaired. There were also some cards with scents on it which left my mind blown away because of the accuracy of what is described on that paper. I also loved that they have lockers (which are free) so that your visit would be very convenient. The installations are a must see and I do hope that a lot of people get to visit this museum as I really enjoyed going here. Not gonna lie, there were parts where I can't help but cry because it touched my sentimental heart. I won't spoil which one so better head there and see...

On arrival the architecture of the building and design of the exterior was very impressive, before we realised we thought we'd entered through what felt like a bourgey coffee shop (although this turned out to be the main entrance) - before coming across the work of Monira Al Qadiri SPECTRUM I, an impression display of ceramic works representing the forms of oil drill heads. An interesting series of works which enticed us deeper into the building. The view across the water from the point was beautiful. A truly stunning combination of art & architecture. Inside there was a good programme of shows on but decided just to visit the collections that were free to visit as we were on a long roadtrip and decided to invest the money on a book instead. The overall experience was well worth it and so happy we found, and got chance to visit this place...
