Muiderslot: So during the decline of Corona pandemic june 2020 when slowly tourism started to open in Netherlands I decided to visit this place. I took out cycle and decided to peddle all the way almost 20 km (40km+ complete journey) from Amsterdam. It was one of the most memorable journey i had. Bright and warm sun, pleasent breeze made this journey into an experience. On reaching the city i found so many cruise and boat near the city. Finally I reached Muiderslot. I had prepaid museum kart and booking ticket with that was very smooth experience. The first glimpse of Muiderslot was mesmerising. The castle was very well maintained. All the artifact were well preserved. On entry you can ask for a audio guide which gives you basic explanation of every room and artifact and if you want there are some added information also. Keeping corona in mind they have made entry limited to few people at a time. There were two lanes marking way for incoming and outgoing tourist. It was so well managed that most of the time i felt i had reserved the castle for my private visit. One of the must visit place in...
Read moreThis is a nice day trip from Amsterdam. Touring the castle won't take too long. Maybe an hour if you do both audio tours. And you should do both audio tours. They are informative and add context to what you are seeing.
It was fun to climb the spiral staircases into the towers and walk along the castle walls. The castle is in remarkable condition and looks like it's right out of a fairy tale.
The garden and surrounding grounds are worth walking around as well. They had some outdoor game set up (tug of war, stilts) that families were enjoying. You can also walk through the castle's plum tree orchard. The fruit was just starting to grow on our visit.
We rode over on the ferry from Amsterdam and we had time to walk into the nearby town of Muiden before the return time. It is definitely worth walking into town and it is only about 10 minutes from the castle down a pleasant brick road. We had a quick lunch along the locks where we watched boats sail by and listened as a men's choral group sang what seemed to be traditional Dutch songs.
All-in-all this was a pleasant way to...
Read moreEdited to be more specific: It was a cute castle that was very kid-friendly, and decent for adults. The two routes you get to do without taking the guided tours are essentially walking up and down two of the towers and along the walls, which they have some interesting things added to it. The gardens are cute, although quite small compared to castles from other areas of the Netherlands. The falconer is insightful and clearly passionate about his birds. However, the entry price is a bit steep for what you get to do and see, especially in comparison to other castles. Most of the activities are aimed towards children, not adults. It is suggested that one might be there around 2.5 hours but you can easily see and do everything in an hour if you are not with children. "The Tavern", which is their cafeteria (cheeky, love it) has a very limited choice of lunch foods, yet their desserts looked decent if you want something with coffee or tea. Overall, interesting little locale, just a bit expensive for the time spent there and the energy...
