Museum MORE has become one of my family’s favorite museums in the region, and this was our second visit within a year!
Even though the scale of the museum is relatively small, but it has a very tasteful permanent collection, accompanied by interesting, thought-provoking exhibitions all year round.
Since we have a 6-year-old, we always pay particular attention to how a museum caters to children and try to get them involved in the art world. Museum MORE has a dedicated, beautiful space just for children visitors to be artsy and creative. They also provide guides, fun activities, ample coloring pencils and clipboards, encouraging and guiding the children to explore the museum space at their own pace and according to their own interest.
Besides its exquisite art collection, the beautiful architecture itself, both exterior and interior, also deserves to be mentioned. There’s something magical about the way light floods in through those huge glass windows and ceiling, making the whole space feel open, bright, and full of life.
The museum shop near the entrance also has a very good selection of books and all kinds of items for audience of all ages.
If you are a modern/contemporary art lover and happens to be in or around Gorssel, it’s definitely worth your while to check...
Read moreWent with friends and their few months-old baby. I was a bit skeptical at first, but the museum's quiet calm and elegant colourscape meshed so well with the kid. The restaurant was gracious about allowing the baby to cry a little at first, and when she fell asleep we continued the exploration.
You may wonder why that is relevant, but to my friends, this proved they can in fact go out with the baby. That is a big deal, and MORE made that realisation possible.
The modern art in the museum is carefully curated and excellently presented, with clear, non-intrusive information provided in well lit texts. The appreciation of the displayed art itself is - as ever - subject to personal preference, but to this reviewer, presentation and background information made the exhibits work very well.
The museum is located in the picturesque town of Gorssel, nearby Deventer, and is an excellent morning or afternoon trip if you are staying in the area. The town has cute amenities, and I can in good conscience definitely...
Read moremy friends and I drove a long way in a rental car for this allegedly biggest modern art museum in netherlands, thus we found out that the price is set way too high, 18 euro, without any student discount, higher than the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. I understand it is a private museum, but with this price, it is against the principle of museum itself, it is not accessible for most of the people and highly classified. We are utterly disappointed and wouldnt recommend it further. In fact, I think quite a lot visitors paid the price because they are also "already there", we refuse to...
