A wonderful museum with a warm and very enthusiastic welcome!
Hand-held electronic tour guides (with multilingual options) held to displays provided further information to the text. Because visitors listened to the these guides, it was peaceful inside.
The layout inside is fantastic! Lots of sections with nooks and crannies to get into, and things are laid out creatively which really give you the feeling of immersion. In several sections you can wear headphones and watch video / animation / displays - lots of variation! - and not just standing in front of a screen; one, for example, we looked down into a well and had a birds-eye view!
The route though the museum includes a section that's outside. It was warm and dry at the time so we had no difficulty here, but seeing as we were asked to leave our bags and coats in the cloakroom at the beginning I can see this might be problematic / uncomfortable if you visit on a day with bad weather. Then again, it's not compulsory to go outside!
The lady who collected our tour guides when we were back at reception was quite 'flat'; she didn't ask us what we thought, or say goodbye or anything. Not required I suppose, but after the friendly and enthusiast welcome from her younger colleague and the fun we had, it was quite a let-down.

Though still there is a headphone guide for non-Dutch tourists that share many details in multiple languages. But still not those...
