Wilhelminapark — Attraction in Venlo

I've been here several times. It's a pleasant place and close to Venlo city center. There are several lovely trees and they make the park look lively and picturesque. Zoals voormalig Koningin Wilhelmina verschilde van haar dochter Koningin Juliana, verschillen beide Venloose parken ook van elkaar. Het Juliana park is eigentijds, wat groter, en praktisch ingericht voor multifunctioneel gebruik. Het Wilhelmina park. Statig, eind 19e begin 20e eeuws, dus van Wilhelmina's tijd, romantische setting, vol karakter. Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar Wilhelmina en ook naar het naar haar vernoemde park. Dit licht glooiende, ronde park met een doorsede van zo'n 150 m, heeft enorme plantaanachtige bomen, water partijen en vooral veel gras. Aan de cirkelvormige weg rond het park, liggen zo'n 20-tal grote vila's, ook weer uit Wilhelmina's tijd, die allemaal met de voorzijde, op het lommerrijke park staan gericht. Eén van de vila's,-"villa Anna"-, was van mijn vroegere werkgever Océ van der Grinten. Ik ben er destijds gewogen en goed bevonden. De romantische sfeer moet de tricker zijn geweest voor het initiatief van het wijnfestival "Op Dronk". Een naar Frans voorbeeld opgezette wijnmarkt, waar vooral locale wijnhandelaren hun meest favoriete flessen ontkurken.
