Located less than 20 kms from Volendam, Marken is a very pretty fishing village renowned for its colorful timber houses. With bus and ferry services connecting these two tourist hot-spots, Marken is as popular as Volendam for visitors. Two photos attached.

Ce village est juste incroyable ! 100 % piétonnier pour les visiteurs ; parking payant à l’entrée (15 euros la journée en novembre 2020). COVID 19 oblige l’ensemble des bars et restaurants étaient malheureusement fermés mais cela donne envie de revenir en dehors de ce contexte. Les lieux sont charmants et préservés à environ 20 KM d’Amsterdam, mais cela vaut vraiment le détour et la visite ! Les maisons sont toutes plus charmantes les unes que les autres ; les restaurants sont concentrés sur le port. Vraiment charmant ! Amateurs de photographies authentiques des Pays-Bas ce lieu est fait pour vous !

The woman running this place is quite the saleswoman. We took shelter from the bad weather here as we were waiting for the boat (45 min) to go to Volendam. She immediately started selling the "viewing house" for a Euro and when she realized nobody was interested, she chased them off so fast. We then paid a Euro each (two adults, kid and an infant). She did show the house which was alright and let us stay till the boat arrived and gave a couple of "gifts" to the kids as I think she felt bad for charging us 4 Euros. :) Regardless, she was a nice woman and we...

Skip the touristy, non-Marken owned places in town to visit this truly authentic, lovingly maintained Marken home. As if your Marken aunt just stepped out: full of colour, antiques and interesting details like the bedstee. A quick visit but very reasonably priced. Unique souvenirs too....
