Woolworths Eastgate — Attraction in Christchurch

This supermarket USED to be great, well not anymore it isn't. All because of 1 particular managerial staff member. She has changed the whole vibe of the place! She's rude to customers and other staff, never has a smile on her face and stands behind your shoulder at self checkout to make sure you aren't ripping the system. They've all become paranoid and eyeball EVERYONE!! Tip: If you look a bit dodge, out of place or you go there more then once in a day you will be targeted and embarrassed!!! Bag search anyone? They are horrible at preventing shoplifting and just sit there twiddling there thumbs when the beepers go off. Yet everytime I've witnessed bag searches etc they're wrong everytime. Its also become sad almost depressing, the only positive thing about the place is the pharmacy. Some staff are a little inexperienced and wait times are often long but they're friendly, lively people with the cheapest prescription cost of $2.50 around, plus they're open until...

So I encountered the rudest lady the other day. Scanned a packet of chips and put it to the baggage side. Screen comes up unidentified product in bagging area, I proceed to remove the stuff I had already cahsed and realize that it was the chips. Ok thought maybe it didn't scan properly so I scanned it again, samething, tried the next pack once again samething. Decided to ask for assistance and before I can explain what was happening madam gonna look at me and ask me why I scan it more than once. Excuse me? Needless to say I was not a happy camper and let her and her supervisor know. In addition to them training their staff properly. Haven't been here enough to judge it, but the one time I went there this Jan in afternoon on a weekday I liked the demographic of staff. Haven't seen the staff during the day, so can't judge too much about the ethnicity of people they hire. I have seen other countdowns such as countdown columbo street where they are highly discriminatory and try to exclude New Zealand workers from working there. Countdown Eastgate as I said I visited one afternoon and quite a few staff were New Zealanders, would have to visit a bit more at different times to make a better judgment but I am pleased that atleast there was a moment in the store where I saw mostly New Zealand workers which is quite uncommon in other stores such as Countdown...
