Love Chartwell- I literally go there for the food and for H&M but last night me and a couple of my friends decided to have a look in different stores just to browse and one of the stores we decided to visit was 'Evergreen'.
The store is filled with different items, ranging from ornaments, plates, paintings and everything like that. Very clean and not too crowded.
So we walk in, we're having a look at earrings, stones and anything we could see, pointing at things we could buy for ourselves and we couldn't help but notice that we were being followed by a store assistant. Like we thought it was normal, it happens I have worked in customer service before so I'd want to go up to a customer and ask if they are interested in anything or if they need help but we didn't receive that. We were just being followed. Didn't get a "Hi! Are you looking for anything in particular today?" or "You just browsing?" just plain ole' getting followed.
So we continue walking around the store, looking at things and another assistant comes in - the two have a conversation in their native language (sounded pretty cool ngl) and then he starts following us around. Looking at us like we're going to steal something?? Anywhere we would go, we would be followed.
Do you know how uncomfortable that was?
Even when we were looking at a painting of Jesus at the front of their store he was standing behind us. Literally watching us. Wouldn't say anything to us so we decided to leave and he stood outside of the store and watched us walk down the hall to other stores like did he want to say something to us??
And it doesn't stop there. We went back towards Evergreen to get food from Maccas and he was there, looking at us buying our food.
I don't want to say that we were being followed because of the colour of our skin because that is extremely disrespectful to assume that but if it is because we looked dodgy in anyway to the store assistants- like they could've said something to us. They could've asked to check our pockets, spoken to us to clarify why they were following us but to follow us for literally no reason is so so uncomfortable and I hope no one else has to experience this.
Not a "Don't go to this store" because the store is pretty nice and the items in there are pretty good (a bit pricey though- like very pricey) but just some feedback on what evergreen could do better with their...
Read moreAnyone who has lived in Hamilton for some time will be familiar with Chartwell. The shopping centre of many a decade has changed names and faces, added and extended and retailers have come and gone. The longest standing is Farmers. Known now as Chartwell Shopping Centre it boast Event Cinemas the cheapest in town but their aged decor and microwaved food tarnishes the experience. Countdown supermarket is great, Toy World and Smiggle shine for young and old and EB Games who have the best customer service in Hamilton are worth the visit.
There are multiple retailers selling Jewellery for all spenders, shoes, hairdressers, a chemist a health food store, book stores, optometrists and enough clothing shops to clothe the entire population of a small village to say the least... there is many. The food court stores sell sushi, donuts, Donburri bowls, McDonalds, Subway and more flavours to tempt most but not all. The foodcourt is only open late on Thursdays and Fridays so if you're heading the movies eat prior.
There are five major cafe chains Robert Harris, The Coffee Club, Theobroma and Gloria Jean's which is my favourite. Starbucks recently made the bad decision to change locations from their cosy upstairs store to down below amongst the shadows and the exhaust fumes.
This shopping centre is not busy and is usually visited by locals. The photos were taken a week before Christmas at 1pm so they speak volumes. Most days you could bowl a bowling ball through and not hit anyone so if you're wanting a quiet shopping trip go to Chartwell Shopping Centre.
A few bonuses within a five minute walk include the Chartwell branch of the Hamilton Public Library, buses to and from the CBD, The Base and outlying suburbs as well as Lynden Court shops and food outlets. The FREE parking will hook anyone so go and visit, watch a movie or just relax...
Read moreChartwell Mall, located in Hamilton, Ontario, offers a convenient and accessible shopping experience for visitors. This modestly sized shopping center provides a variety of retail stores, making it a solid choice for those looking for both practicality and convenience in one spot. While it may not be as large or as flashy as some other malls in the area, Chartwell Mall is valued for its community-centered atmosphere and relatively low-key environment.
The mall’s layout is simple and easy to navigate, with a mix of popular stores and smaller, local businesses. Some notable retailers include clothing stores, beauty shops, and home goods outlets, catering to a range of needs. There’s also a good selection of food options, from quick bites to sit-down eateries, which provides a comfortable space for shoppers to take a break.
One of the standout features of Chartwell Mall is its focus on providing a more relaxed and less crowded shopping experience. It’s particularly appealing to those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of larger malls while still having access to a variety of stores. The mall also has ample parking, which is often a challenge in busier shopping areas.
However, it should be noted that the mall’s size means it might not have the extensive selection of high-end stores found at larger retail centers. Its mix of stores is solid, but it might not meet the needs of those looking for a wide variety of premium brands or niche items.
Overall, Chartwell Mall is a reliable, low-pressure shopping destination. It’s an ideal spot for local residents or those seeking a quick shopping trip without the chaos of bigger malls. Its practical amenities, along with its laid-back vibe, make it a hidden gem for many in the...
