Did the mini-hike from the top of the hill near Clydesdale Rd, down to Shelly Beach. What a gorgeous little walk! It's an undulating trail that needs good shoes or boots; if it's been raining, prepare for mud and a few slippery moments. The trail starts downhill through a lovely paddock and then into the foresty scrub. In and out of sunshine and along past mangroves and the waterway, ending up at the absolutely gorgeous little cove of Shelly Beach about an hour later, if you're ambling along, 45 if you're swift. The trail is well maintained and well signposted. Being your walking legs, because there are quite a few ups and downs, but it's a fairly easy walk overall. Shelly Beach is absolutely lovely and secluded - you DO walk past (and seemingly through) the waterfront lawns of the houses down there, but it's worth it to get to the tiny little cove. The beach is not good for bare feet (all sharp shells and broken fragments ) but will absolutely go back in Summer with a picnic, reef shoes,...
Read moreGreat reserve with approximately 10km of fully formed track. Main carpark is on Somerville Rd but you can access from Point View Dr, or from Sandspit Rd. There is a short loop track from the main carpark which is perfect for taking the kids, or longer ‘out and back’ walks/runs either to the south, or north, or combine all for about a 10km trip. Track is nice and wide, good quality stairs and boardwalk, great escape from the city hustle and bustle. Can be busy at times with walkers and runners, dogs must remain on leash on paths but there are areas for dog exercise. Only a couple of spots have seating, and only one picnic area in the whole reserve. Plus the only toilet is a portaloo at the main carpark which is frequently used by passing tradies and truckies,...
Read moreGreat walk in eastern suburb. Only around 5 mins drive from Countdown Botany.
Our boys are primary and intermediate school age. They enjoyed the walk very much.
There are a flight of steep stairs, which take about 5 mins to go down and about 10 mins coming up. Other than that, most walks are quite decent, not flat, some ups and downs which are not too bad.
I love the walkway into the ocean and also in the end of the walk you get to Shelly Park Beach with great secluded views.
Parking at Summerville road barn. About 2.5 hours walk...
